The hub is designed to take 98% of the load on a wheel... thats the purpose of the wheel hub, so your lug nuts arent taking the majoirty of the force. Think about it, when your wheel slams into a pot hole. You wouldn't want all that force transfered directly to the lug bolts.

Ah, now that's where you're right. The hub was meant to take the shearing force brought on through every day abuse. But holding the wheel onto the mounting surface (or the clamping force) is where the lug nuts' job lies.

I'm arguing semantics blah blah blah. Blame my hours of doing Machine Design homework and engineering classes in college. I'm hard-wired to see the failure in every mechanical thing based on shear strengths and forces.

I just want to go home and do car shit and watching videos on youtube isn't helping.
