  • New E30, Questions?

Yo Bimmer gods, I think I have finally found a new car. Its a 1990 325is manual with only 120k on the current motor (228k on the body). I have a couple questions. I Kno E46s in and out now but not much about E30s! I want to order a couple of things before I get the car ! I want to run a Thule roof rack with fairing , does Thule make a universal roof rack or sumthing cause I have no idea which one I should buy??????????????? I also want to run a single wiper blade, does anybody know if these are any good cause if not then I wont waste my money http://www.tuningzubehor.com/cfb.asp...c=jmpofpkmroq0. I cant wait to pick it up and post my shit up on the build section, luckily I dont have many classes this semester so I will have time to mess with it. This build shall be epic! Thanks!!!!!

e30s have tradional gutters, unlike more modern cars. Dunno the part name/number but theyre pretty common.

As for the monowiper, becareful that youre buying the actual wiper, not some "upgrade kit" A Bonrath wiper should go for a lot more than that. However, you can modify stock assmebly to work as a monowiper.

Go with a Bonrath kits it cost more but it is a top notch part. If u need any parts for it let me know i like most e30 people have alot lying around.

Quick word of advice on an e30, truer words have rarely been spoken.

                "See, you don't get it.

It's not that E30 owners are traditionally cheap bastards, it is the cars that MAKE us be cheap bastards. You go out and buy top notch shit, have it professionally assembled, try doing all the right shit while the rest of the E30 world is using a side post battery held off from banging the side of the car with cardboard and held in place with a half-rotted bungee cord... and drive the car 300,000 miles with hardly even an oil change!

These cars require cheap crappy fixes, used belts from the junkyard, mismatched tires...hell, mine is on its 4Th used windshield! New, they are barely a hundred bucks!

I mean, you know I feel your pain, but seriously try and drop your level of expectation. Don't be such a perfectionist. Put all your focus into the forum, these stupid cars really don't matter. Try swapping in some crappy greasy junkyard parts, your car will love you.

Oh yeah, no matter what condition these cars are in, they like fresh wax like a cat likes a sunny window."

Sure its exaggerated, but the point is, Even if you drop a ton on it upfront, your level of expectation has to still be for an e30.

Granted, you came from an e46, and i heard those have tons of problems so youre probably fine

                Otherwise, you should love it

Well when I say that I want to go "all out" I dont mean this is goin to be a fuckin show car or anything, ppl who mod their cars always have a list of shit they want to do to them or add on, so when I say "go all out" I am sayin that I want to do everything on my list. I dont want this car to be "pretty" I want it to be raw an unique(minus the roof rack everybody does that), I am just amped about getting it. And I had to do plenty of cheap fixes on my E46; I know where you guyz are coming from . I have only really worked on 1 E30 ever, my grandfather had an '84 318i manual and he was the ORIGINAL owner but he totaled it back in august. He loved that car like a child and I loved the way the ride felt. Thanks

I have to agree with Stephen. They r only e30's. I have been through a bunch in the 10yrs since i bought my first one. The one i currently have I have gone ALL OUT on. I have so much money into i will never get it back out. Get the car mechanically sound then worry about looks. Oh i have a set of wheels if u want to spend some money.

yeah , i just got an e30 coupe back in thanksgiving , but i had a sedan for a year before that, but it sat for the whole year , now i got two running ones and i treat them both like i treat all my other cars , with care but with a mix of frugality and excess haha does that make sense? but anyway, both are stock save for wheels , and it's always a fun learning experience getting a new car you know nothing about ...so far i'm loving them both , but i'm researching and looking at car specific forums to learn quick and make good choices , i'd recommend u do the same and good luck with the e30...right now my biggest question is " will a 16x9 -41 fit in the rear of my coupe " ...
                          Its all about
