  • New BMW 4 series w/o gaudy vent.

I photoshopped this up earlier, and I think it came out ok.

Here's the original photo, I got this from Jalopnik.com:

Let me know which version you like better. Myself, I like the vent-less design better.

looks miles better without the vent.

with that said, I like the new 4 series.

I, too, like it better without the vent.

Now just give the car a completely new rear bumper* and I'll like 100% of it.

*I think the rear bumper, while it's a good styling cue to have it kind of matching the front, looks like it has way too much open space, bordering on Goatse levels of gape.

Let's talk about how it should never be named a 4 series.

          Why not?

The 6series is a "bigger" Coupe version of the 5.
And the 8series is a "bigger" Coupe version of the 7.
I think the name 4series is a fitting name for something that is a "bigger" coupe version of the 3.
Oh well, i know that the 5 and 7 series never had a coupe in the line up, unlike the 3series that had it all, from coupes, compacts, touring, sedans and verts. but just maybe BMW had it wrong from the get go and should have branded the "3series coupes as 4series"

I agree, but I can also see why they did it, if that makes sense.

They also did it to move the current 1-series to the 2-series, so that there was room to bring over a cheaper 1-series sedan/hatch.

              so 1=sedan, 2=coupe, 3=sedan, 4=coupe, etc..

It's all about brand heritage, and the numbers make no sense 4 = 2 door? Why not make the 4 a sedan and the 3 the coupe. The 3 has been a coupe primarily and a sedan secondarily since its creation. It's dumb.

Well, it's never been that way about the numbers, what did you think the 7 series would have seven doors?

And brand heritage, well its growing. Maybe they should have made a 4 series right of the bat so they would match the sedan / coupe version of each lineup "5/6 series, 7/8 series, I think its a fine idea to bring the 1/2 and 3/4 series concept". And they are not getting rid of the 3 series coupe. Just bringing in a meaner bigger "3 series" coupe that is gonna be called a 4 series.
What did you think when they came with the 1 series? Its only 12 years ago when that car line was launched.

But one thing i don't like about the new way they are taking, is that when they launch the new "M3" its most likely gonna be called a "M4" Now that is screwing up with heritage, unless they make M models of the 3series coupe and/or sedans as well and call them M3's.
