    I live in NC....

I had no idea where Lincolnton was. Did 5 minutes of google-ing and found where Lincolnton is and found these.....

    http://hickory.craigslist.org/ctd/3421451677.html

It's got a tan interior and an 8-ball shifter, but other than that it looks pretty sweet to me. Sh*t there's more BMW's around hickory than in G'boro(where I'm at) for relatively good prices.

    I also found this....

    http://hickory.craigslist.org/cto/3421429087.html

Both are pretty sweet models, both sub 5K, 2 door models, both have manual trans, and both are close to you. Also both were within the first 5-6 posts here...

If you want one more opinion. This is what I'd do.

Keep the Cavalier clean, and well maintained, and do minor mods that are easily reversible for the future when you sell it(keep the old stock parts unless thy're totally shot). And try to get as much out of it as you can when you sell it to go towards something you really want to mod and keep. Or bite the bullet and trade it in somewhere. Surprisingly Carmax might give you a descent amount for it if its in descent shape. My wife traded in a beat to sh*t 98 CRV with over 200K, F'd AC, something wrong in the steering rack, and hail damage on every panel. With all that they still gave her 2K and that was just a few years ago. She didn't even clean the thing out before she took it up there(I'm talking trash and random shit from college in there when she took it up there). You already sound like you're on the fence about going forward with the Cavalier. Unless you really like the Cavalier, then just keep it and don't worry what other people like.

When you start modifying a car you're basically guaranteed to devalue the car to 90% of people down the road when you want to sell it. Even if you find some kid like you who wants a modded car. You still won't get your money from the mods back and you'll probably also lose value on the car itself as well. So don't start modding unless you're totally happy with the car itself first.

You've already got a classic to work on and you're tight on $$$. I suggest picking one project at a time if you're tight on $$$. Maintain the Cav, drive it daily because its cheap on gas and work on the calssic and run that on pretty Fridays and weekends. Once you're happy with the classic then move back to the Cav or trade it in for something you're ready to keep for a while.

My point is. You're tight on money and already have a classic to work on. Work on that for now and then mod a car you really like. Don't just mod something because that's what you've got. Because if you dump money into wheels and suspension on the Cav and then realize you'd rather have something else. Then you're going to lose money on any non-maintenance work done.

I think the bigger question is what are you doing trying to modify cars when you're in school and have no job? If your car functions then drive it. Crack addictions are cheaper than this hobby.

OP should stop whining about/defending his Cavy and face the fact that their terrible cars, in every aspect.
Buy an import for cheap like they've been saying and just fix it up to your own liking respectably.

If I could find a damn job this thread wouldnt even exist. I had 5500 to spend after I totaled my first vehicle and insurance through the roof so I bought what was cheapest on insurance. If I knew for sure when the mustang was going to be finished I would put the cav up on craigslist for the 3000 I payed for it and wait but I dont want to get offers on it and then he SOL when it sells and the mustang is still sitting in the shop. So until then I think Ill just keep driving it and not do much to it that would devalue it. Maybe change the color of the interior from the shitty tan to black since I can do that basically free. Also Im going to keep trying to find a job which is surprisingly hard where I live having little prior experience for the jobs Im applying for. I have more experience in body damage repair than some of the 25 year olds that work at the local shops but hiring an 18 year old is out of the question it seems like.

Cavaliers are fucking shit boxes in every aspect. I would rather ride a bike or walk than drive one.

Put me on this list as well. haha. I have entirely too much time and effort invested in my piece of crap, and not nearly as much as this guy. The only reason I did anything to mine is because its what I have and its the only one like it.

Also, I thought you just got stick with a Cavalier. You didn't mention you willingly PAID 3,000 for it. And here I was feeling bad for your situation. The shit you can build for less than 3k...

I like how s2000s and ALL BMWs are in the same price range.

Up to you. I know I could make a cavalier look good but I still can't think of a situation where my life took such a wrong turn that I would mod it over selling it for anything else (civic, s13, hardbody, e30, e24, e28, e21, e36, miata, cressida, acccord, prelude, etc. even a vw (yeah I think I just went there)(just kidding fuck vw's))

Listen (or read) if you wish, I assume you are a young man in his late teens or may be even 20?

Anyone can have a job if they want it bad enough, I'm not that much older than you, I'm not quite old enough to be your father, although it's possible but unlikely, but please do not assume you are the hot shot, the earlier you realize that the easier life will be for you, I see tons of young folks come and go that works for us, and I do the hiring, you know the saying "good helps are hard to come by?", by good helps we mean ones that are humble and willing to learn, if you are 18, even if you work at a bodyshop since you are 12, you only have 6 years of experience, I've got kids older than that.

Most likely some 30 year olds who's got a mouth or two to feed are willing to work super hard just so he can feed, he won't come in and pretend he knows it all as he just want to keep the job and pay the bills, that's why not many people want to hire 18 year olds.

If you want a job, learn to type in proper grammar, learn to speak in intelligent manner, and pretend you know nothing about anything, shut up and learn, if someone ask you to do something, do it, don't sit there and complaint think you deserve a $20/hr job by thinking you are a big shot, when I was in college, me and buddy of mine were painting houses on the side, he was majoring in quantum physics and he designs nuclear reactors now, we wanted the money bad, and we needed to eat, so we shut up and knock on every door asking if they wanted their houses to be painted, we got yelled at, we got spat at, but we made it through, I also worked at night on weekends at clubs cleaning up and what not.

There are always people who won't like what you are doing with your hobby, but if it makes you life grow in a positive way, then continue to do so, but you must do it for yourself, not any others, I wanted to slam my Volvo so bad back around 99, and others were laughing at me saying why, I told them I just like it and kept going at it, at the end, you have no one to satisfy other than yourself.

So cliff note: there's a job for you, you just got to look for it, shut up and listen that's the only way you can learn, and if you like Cavaliers/Sunfires, keep going at it, it's your hobby, not anyone else's.

I've seen a few nice cavaliers. the one on sawblades is pretty nice. But like everybody else said, it's what surrounds the car. sterotypes. etc.

I think every platform should be exploited to it's best to show somebody true potential. If you have the will and the way, make it happen. The worst thing you could possibly do is buy a car that you don't have your heart into to impress everybody else.

It's like brand named clothes in junior high. Looking back on it, does it really matter whose parents bought them Jordan's? No, it doesn't. So if a BMW or VW isn't something that you want, forget about it. People will always, ALWAYS talk shit no matter if you drive a Cavalier, or a Veyron. Somebody will always have something smart to say.

So forget those people, and do what you want. It sounds lame, but follow your heart. You will regret it if you don't, trust me.

Hope that helps you out buddy.

Nobody can say Jbodys(Cavaliers,Sunbirds and sunfires) are shit and civics are better. They are all in the same class. Same price range.
