  • 24 Hours of LeMons

Who said you need money to be a race car driver? The 24 Hours of LeMons is a nationwide series of endurance races in cars that cost $500 or less, and entry fees are similarly cheap — $500 per car, $100 per driver. A rollcage, suit, and helmet are pretty much all that's required beyond a modicum of driving skill and a solid sense of humor — one car is selected for crushing mid-race, so you'd best be able to take it with a smile.

Because racing isn't just for rich idiots... it's for all idiots.

24 Hour of Lemons is a ridiculous race.

I haven't been able to attend yet, but our shop has a Lemons car that competed a few seasons ago.

It was squidbillies themed. Had the son on top, and the Grandma hung off the back with her walker.

Bribing the judges is great, and the biggest cheater, as voted by the racers, is crushed in the middle of the race.

Oh, and payout for the winner is in Nickles. Yeah.

LeMons is ridiculously expensive compared to running a pure-stock weekly at your local track.

A good friend of mine has done both, and he said to run one event at LeMons it ends up costing about $3500, not including the car.

For that money he can run a full season down at our track.

That's not the point at all. From what I see, it would be so much fun. If you have a group of 5 friends and you split it up it wouldn't be bad at all. Don't get me wrong though, even just running a race at your local track once and a while would be fun too

It's fun until you realize you can't get away with half the shit you think you can.
