  • cant decide :(

Alright every one I am a freshman in college who cant afford his own gas, insurance, or anything yet... yea I am working on it and trying cause dad been whoopin my ass to get a job and pay .... anyway I bought my very first own car after saving since I was 11 and currently own the E36 M3, but this baby is too much rusted like there is rust inside the rear fender in the back in the trunk if u remove the side carpet, but then again comes the money problem which I dont have on how to pay for its gas since it does 18mpg LOL but it is fast tho .... Now I have to decide and get a car that is atleast cheap in insurance, I have seen old cars are cheap so I have couple of cars I can pick from, the Mercedes benz 300ce or c230, BMW 318is, audi A4, VW golf, or gli.... no i dont want some shit honda or a toyota cause I from the day I entered this world I been riding in those and I want some thing different. All the cars I am looking at are from 1985-1999 .... if my last resort is to get JDM then hell i would go for 240sx.... so now help me out here guys. oh and i forgot one more thing I am gona STANCE any car I am gona buy . I am mostly leaning towards the MB 300ce and the bmw 318is

Freshman in college and saved up to buy your first car. I respect that and remember when I was in your position.

Your saying that you have no money. And are dead set against two manufacturers that make 40MPG cars all day long. But then say that you want to STANCE anything that you buy (spend even more money that you won't really recoup).

You have to be careful with buying an older car with any kind of budget limitations. Your current M3 is a perfect example. Unexpected things pop up. Out of the choices you gave I would have to agree with Yogi_Bear on a VW. The others may be "cheap" to buy but not cheap to fix or maintain PROPERLY in stock form unless you do most of the work yourself. Not to mention once you start modifying an older car.

.......That first seized bolt you break in half or bushing you destroy just trying to loosen suspension components. Instantly thinking "I wish I had not started doing this" or "why didn't I just leave this alone". Making that dreaded call to the auto parts store for a replacement part and all your can hear is $$$. Ask me how I know.

FYI: I once too was broke. Had no car and needed a car immediately. Bought a old Civic that was 4 different colors with cut springs and blown struts for $200 and drove it for 4 years and well over 200K miles. (fixed that stuff with cheap used parts) Only sold it because this guy kept asking to buy it from me for over a year because he always saw me driving it around. I hadn't driven it for a few months since I had more cars then and one day he offered me $1400 in cash.

thanks man I always like to buy stuff on my own rather than telling my parents to buy it for me and their financial condition is that great in this economy

I mean When i sell my e36 m3 I will have enough cash to buy a cheap old car then spend the extra that I might have left on the mods maybe, I prolly wont Stance or mod right after I buy the car since I wont have time..... I mean I recently replaced my drive shaft, guibo, and the center support bearing on my m3 and I did it my self So i guess I am mechanically inclined.

I am gona go and check some of there cars out and see which one I feel confident with and think is reliable....
