  • Cash For Dumbasses

I'm not sure if anybody has posted this stuff already but i thought i would bring it back up. I was one of those ppl who didnt really know what happened to cars that were brought in for "cash for clunkers". I though they would just bring them to the junk yard and part them out or sumthin. But they had to do sumthing worse. Every dealership had to "Agree" to the governments terms before they could even start the program. This was what they had to do to EVERY CAR! Damn this pisses me off. I love cars and to see this happen actually makes me upset.

Here are a couple of the videos dealerships made as they "Killed" the cars..smh

Local junkyards are making bank off all of the amazingly clean cars coming in. I've taken advantage of quite a few. It's quite sad that all of them end up inoperable though. Late 80's and early 90's cars are gonna pull a premium many years from now. Luckily the program was short lived.

Post it up brah. Yeah it pisses me off that they had to do that to every car. I mean I see how they were afraid that the dealers would keep the car and turn around and sell it, but there are better ways of making sure that it wasn't completely wasted like that.

Cash for clunkers was an incredibly poorly thought out gov't program that got people out of their older cars (the majority of which were paid off) to get them into new, more fuel efficient cars by luring them in with the < 4k discount on a new car...

Apparent gov't logic: Lets see, there's an economic downturn and many people finding it hard to keep their jobs and earn a living, so why don't we find a way to stimulate the economy? No one's spending money, so let's incentivize new cars and get the auto industry a boost by shifting the debt from poorly managed American auto companies to the average consumer, therefore putting them in even more debt since they'll be taking on a new car payment. Fucking retarded.

so i read the op and thought that it was weird that he was getting up set, and now after watching those... i agree and watching that e34 die actually sadend me a little... however i am glad the program only ran for a short while.... BUT has anyone heard their new program?

Cash for Caulkers hahaha.... they say it creates jobs and helps with heating efficiency, where you would pay someone to come out to your house and caulk your window seals to keep heat in/out.... and its just another thing for us to pay our taxes into...

They are just trying to keep the money flowing and avoid another Great Depression.

Whoops. Sorry. Forgot about this thread.

                          Here ya go:

                          Overkill – Brandon "Southpaw"

The Obama administration approved program dubbed the name “cash for clunkers” was created to get gas chugging vehicles off of the road and to stimulate auto sales in the US. Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS, also known as cash for clunkers), worked so well that in four days, the initial funding for the program was depleted, all one billion dollars of it. The House of Representatives rushed to scrape together another two billion dollars for the program, money that was designated to go to the Energy Department. But what now? As successful as it was, it is dubbed as a failure by both the left and the right.

Here’s a scenario: Bob has a 1994 Ford Explorer that gets 10mpg, and if he tried to sell it on Craigslist, he couldn’t even get a grand for it. However, with this “clunkers” program, Bob can take his Explorer to a Ford dealership, and get $4500 off of a brand new Ford at the dealer ship, a much better deal than he would get on Craigslist. Its win-win situation all around for Bob, Ford, and the US, right? Wrong. The Obama administration underestimated the popularity and the madness that would ensue with the demand for participation in this program. The Obama administration also failed to recognize that the used car market is just as important as the new car market; not everybody can afford a brand new car, even with this program. The power to purchase has been dwindled so low, that people wait to the very last minute, or the never do so. The government is only exacerbating this inflationary issue, and in a few presidential terms, this CARS program will prove to be even more of a failure.
