germany and the ring

so, just found out that I will be traveling to germany for a spell at the end of the month and am going to hit up the ring for sure. it's seems to be too late in the game to arrange for a ring taxi, and I don't have the cheddar to pay the astronomical prices they seek to rent a baller car to do some laps.

anyway, hoping that some people have some first hand knowledge of what to do, where to stay, beer gardens and the like. I've got a bead on reasonable rates to rent an e92 for some time on the roads but I'm betting that it doesn't include being allowed to lap the ring and hockenheim is a ways off the path.

the plan is to fly into frankfurt on the 22nd, pick up the m3, drive down to nuremberg for a couple days and make our way back to the ring by the 28th. on the 30th of june there is a public lapping day. after, I will return the m3 with a sad face in frankfurt. dusseldorf is the next stop and I think we will make that leg happen by rail. if anyone has any suggestions as to where to stay around the ring, what to drive on it for a reasonable rate, or any other pertinent information I'd appreciate it.

I know the basics of road courtesy and signage, the finer points could be enlightening. I plan on doing as much research on the interwebs before I leave and picking up some literature but as I said, any tips or hints or ramblings are appreciated. cheers lads, and lasses

If I'm not mistaken, although the Ring is technically a toll road, insurance companies (and I'm sure rental companies too) deny any claim if anything happens at the Ring. So you could take the risk and just do it, but if something goes wrong (and at a racetrack you're not familiar with that risk is quite big) be prepared to pay some pretty penny for the car, services on track, and possible repairs to the track or it's surroundings. I'm not trying to dissapoint you here, I'm just saying that this might not be the best of ideas...

^ cheers and no disappointment here. I love traveling and I love driving and have heard there's no better place to do that than germany, besides I'm going on someone else's dime, well, namely my employer.

I am looking for some suggestions as to a rental company that will allow usage on the ring, I've found a few but they're obscenely priced and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

wanna meet me there? bring the spliffs and I'll pay for the fuel, we'll do 45 the whole way around. insert smiley face here

Haha I'm not crossing the border with stuff on me man, not worth it:p
But you're right, Germany has many great driving roads, don't focus on the ring too much
Friends of mine visit the ring sometimes, they just go and watch, but they also get ride-alongs from guys all of the time. You could try that if you don't find a decently priced rental company, which I think will be quite hard.
I'll see if maybe there are some events here in the Netherlands you could visit or something.

getting excited, booked the e92 for a week and am planning on enjoying the rest of germany's pavement. as it turns out, a local performance shop I am affiliated with sponsors a world challenge car and one of the drivers has an in, we'll see how that pans out

dude, the doobie thing was a joke for sure. it just happened that DDM is from the netherlands, home to the big spliff in the sky. I'm not trying to get in any international trouble with a controlled substance. it'd be fun if a group of guys were down to make the trip over but as of right now, plan is to do a tour outside the ring in an exige and run laps on the ring in a clio cup car. jazzed for sure

I went over to the ring last year in my 200, Was awesome fun! But every lap you will see a crash...
Only a select few people are actually insured when driving round the ring because it is extortionate to even attempt ot get insurance for it!

But most of the people out there have BIG bucks!

Theres a little town about 5ish miles from the ring called "Adenau" It's pretty quiet but serves awesome food and beer! Theres also a few garages dotted around so you may be in luck!
Best bit about staying there was the drive TO the ring... Twisties, hairpins and all sorts

If you're in Germany it is definitely worth while!
