I hope everyone realizes this happens every couple of years. They said the same shit before FnF came out and then the scene exploded.

It's bigger than ever IMO, just in a different shape

the "car guy" scene is bigger than ever, its just full of idiots. i understand that not everyone "gets it", and they do ugly/pointless mods to their cars, but they are still "enthusiasts" whether we like it or not. maybe instead of just flaming them, we could offer some advice on why that bodykit or those wheels might not be the most visually appealing.

if they decline to heed the advice, FLAME ON!
      gooby pls

While I do totally agree with that, I do have to also agree that the massive explosion of technology in cars has something to do with it. I have been driving a crappy, rusty, floppy slow, loud, leaky, broken 1992 Honda Accord for the last few months while working on the bmw, and have haterd almost every minute of it. Recently though, I had to borrow my dads car. A 2007 Acura TL type-S. That was possibly the worst experience of my life. It doesn't feel like a car, even in manumatic mode it feels unconnected, and compute like. And remember, this is still 5 years old! The Technology inside made me disgusted. Dual zone climate control? Why? Then I remembered this is a car a lot of my friends were amazed with when I pulled up, telling me they would love to have this car. I just smiled, drove home, and have have enjoyed my rusting piece of Japanese crap ever since that day. I don't think I'll ever be able to drive a car newer than 2000.

That's baller shit, you wouldn't get it

But seriously, that shits not killing cars, they are becoming more refined. If you put solid bushings, a straight pipe and racing seat in that TL it would be a "real car". Its progression man, that disconnected car will still beat up a bunch of older cars while being able to sip coffee while you do it. On the track I prefer a older car with a connected feel but everyday? Fuck the shit out of that, I want dual climate control AND heated cup holders hahaha

Car scene is alive and well the KIDS are still tinkering they have grown up with technology they are not affraid to mess with shit.

Give them a carbied motor and they go WTF is that, the old art of mechanical tinkering is dwindleing.

Fabrication is alive and well to, as the next generation come into the newer cars scene they will evolve and adapt aspects of the scene and cars to suit the trends of that time.

i can see EVs having windings taken out, upgrades to wiring and control units different/more/better batteries it wont be the same as playing combustion engines and they wont die for a while yet but its an inevitable change

I will still rebuild motors for many decades to come and my kids and or grandkids wont understand what im doing as they watch likewise i may not understand what they are doing to their cars. hopefully through a mutual understanding of transport joy we will still connect on an enthusiasts level.

In a lot of parts in the world a car still stands for freedom and independance here in OZ our thrid world public transport system keeps the car scene well and trully alive. Through the last 100 years of auto history all walks of life enjoy personalizing their car whats changed is how and what they do but not why.

I can sort of see where the original issue is coming from. I've noticed myself that your average joe who is not a car guy tends to prefer the public transport and stuff over the car (which in many cases actually makes sense from a financial standpoint), but the number of people like us - those, whose heads whip around the instant the rumble of a V8 or the screaming of a turbo fourbanger is heard and who spend their every free minute tinkering with their cars - is as strong as ever, imho.

from the quote in the OP

                "The 389-cubic-inch overhead-cam V-8"

389's were pushrod motors, not OHC motors....
