  • The one that got away

Im sure at least a few of us have found an unreal deal on a car or just simply a rare example that got away for whatever reason. Post about it.

I need a truck for hauling/work and have been looking for a while. Just this past weekend an 06 Dodge Ram with the Cummins came up for sale for 10k (where they're usually 25-30). I went to check it out expecting it to be barely running but it was mechanically strong, the PO had just neglected it a little physically and it had relatively high mileage. Perfect for me since it was going to be a work truck anyways and even if the motor and tranny blew up a week later I would still be under what they're currently going for. I told him I would take it but it was a Sunday so the banks were closed and I had no way to pull the money out. He (understandably) told me he didn't want to hold it an miss out on another potential sale. I called him first thing Monday morning on my way to the bank but he told me someone (who apparently just had 10k lying around) picked it up late last night. Such a bummer to miss out on a deal like that.

A few years ago some farmer was selling a mint and running 1969 Datsun 510 for $200. It was just a case of him not knowing what he had. He just saw it as some old car from a dead company that had been sitting in his barn for over a decade. I was in school at the time and was too broke to pick it up.

I had a run in like that,

A girl I worked with years ago had a old Pontiac Sunbird Turbo in very good shape, She came to work saying it would not start and that she was pissed off with her old car and told me I could buy it for $500. I knew the problem was something to do with the fuel pump, but I had no were to park the car at my Condo. So I mentioned it to another co-worker, he paid her the $500, replaced the fuel pump relay, got the car running and traded it in at a Honda dealer for just over $3k on a new sport bike.

Needless to say my head was sore from banging it off the wall for a while.

Imagine how I felt when I found out my Sunbird GT Turbo was worth something AFTER I gave it to my neighbor, whose son totaled it into a dump truck.

        '94 Mustang GT

It was my old mans. Never saw winter but had over 100k on it. Only rust was on the harmonic balancer. Lowered, Ford headers, Borla catback, K&N intake and a whole lot of other good stuff. I wanted the car badly but never had the money. Guy from Georgia flew up to buy it and drive it home. My dad replaced it with an 07 GT.

        The Kia has been parted.

Someone was selling a rotary pickup for I think a bit under $3k, in pretty good nick, locally. I happened to have $3k in my pocket from selling my Protege a bit earlier. Unfortunately it was sold within a couple of days.
