  • How does this work

Was just reading the feature on the front page with the MR2 and wondered how does this work:

Am I right in thinking if he hit a bump on the road the rim will hit the fender. Or is there enough movement in the cars suspension geometry to tuck the rim in under the fender without touching?

It's not just this car, I've seen it with lot's of other cars as well. I know with the E30 the as the wheel moves up the top comes inwards. Might be silly question but fill me in none the less, it's only going to help me with my E30 project

The wheel probably won't hit the fender due to quite/very stiff suspension. Stiff suspension goes hand in hand with paper tight fitment.

Stiff coilovers, and I'm betting it cambers in just enough. OR he is bottomed out and there is no travel and then he has no issues.

I suppose I guessed that might be the case. Prob not very suitable or comfy on Irish roads, never mind the damage it could inflict.

I'm guessing they naturally camber a little more when compressed.

And he is running stupid stiff spring rates.

              Stiff rates won't inflict damage...

With crazy rates yeah... But I don't think anyone with a reasonable thought to their mind wouldn't go crazy with that..

I'd guess his spring rates are in the high teens to twenties. pretty sure he has a video on youtube showing the wheel clearance while driving
Edit: I take that back. He says his widebody flexes. Seems like if he DID hit a large bump that fender is going to be shattered:

i drive with the fender on the tire sidewall. things just eventually wear away until they fit they way you want them to.

Am I the only one on here who actually thinks rubbing like that is pretty retarded? You can achieve amazingly tight fitment without rubbing, so why do things halfway?
