  • Check Control question for the BMW owners.

So i've got almost everything fixed on the E32, but i keep getting a broken tail/brake/licenseplate light warning, whenever i have the lights turned on and i brake.
But when i first turn on the lights, and then start the car, it keeps quit.

Already checked the grounds for the rearlights, and even added an extra wire for each light. Took apart the dash/clock, but couldn't see anything damaged. Any tips on here?

there is a brake switch near the pedal assembly. usually when those are faulty, you start getting brake light errors. very common on the e36s as well.

thats something id have to see to accurately diagnose but id start with a multi meter and see the voltage under load at the tail light and compare with factory specs. make your way back to the brake pedal switch and bam

Where can i find the factory specs? Today i noticed that the lights of the instrument cluster sumtimes flicker. Had this on one of my Alfa's once, replacing the dimmer fixed it. Could that also be the problem on the bimmer?

Only know E30s, but I always just look up the wiring for my car when there are electrical ghosts.

Got sum very odd measurment from the switch, and the dash started flickering when i pressed it, gonna take it out tomorrow. Maybe i can fix it by cleaning it, if not, i'll order a new one. TNX for the tip.

The brake light switches are sh#t on all the BMW's until they went to a hall effect switch with the E46. your switch two should have two switches built into it. The first switch turns the brake lights on the other is for check control. If you have this switch it has a 4 pin connector and you might as well replace it. If it isn't bad it will be soon.

Do you have euro taillights or replica euro taillights? I have OE BMW European Clear/Red taillights on my e36 m3 and every now and then the check control lights up saying either 'brake light circuit' or 'brake light failure'.

I've got the original oem taillights. No oem bulbs, and i've read sumwhere that can be the problem to.
My swich has a 4 pin connector, but found this:

Gonna try that today, if it doens't help, i'll order a new one tomorrow.

yea that's probably the culprit. Let us know if it was that causing it
