  • Power ball? or ........

    I am buying a set of new wheels and I was just wondering what everyone uses to get there wheels all clean? Mother's powerball? What product did you use? The wheels I am getting are colored so will I need to get a special kind to make sure the color stays. I believe the color came from the factory that way.

    Thanks for the help!

    (sorry if this was covered in another thread, searched but couldn't find anything)

      First of all post a picture of the rim so we know what its made of/colors, etc. Then I can recommend you a wheel cleaner.

          I recommend no "wheel cleaners". Wash them with the same car wash soap that you wash your car with, and protect them with wax.

          The only wheels you can safely polish with a metal polishing system like Mother's are polished aluminum wheels.

            Sorry, by wheel cleaner I meant some kind of polishing or buffing compound. Trying to type responses at work.

                1. soap/water
                2. clay
                3. wax
                4. do step 1 over and over until you need to do 2/3 again

                  These are the wheels I just bought. Just looking for any input at all. I normally just clean everything with soap and water but was looking to see if there was something else.

                  Thanks for the help.

                    I just want to stress: do not polish Work lips. They are anodized, not raw polished. Treat them like paint. The majority of popular consumer wheel cleaners are acidic (which is why they cut brake dust and road grime so well), which will dull and gradually eat away at the anodized finish. This damage is irreparable except by stripping and polishing the lip, but then you will have a high-maintenance finish to upkeep.

                      Do use at your own risk, but I've used this on all kinds of wheels, painted and polished, and never had any problems.

                          If I was going to clean up those wheels, I would;

                          Lips:
                          Wash
                          Clay
                          Polish with a swirl mark remover designed for paint.
                          Wax.

                          Faces;
                          Wash
                          Clay
                          Polishing compound
                          Swirl mark remover
                          Wax.
