  • opinions on a daily

In the process of buying a new daily. I have 3 options, mk 1 cabby, 130k on the clock, 5 speed maintenance has been taken care of, power steering pump is whining and clutch needs to be adjusted otherwise good shape, top looks great doesnt leak, black on beige leather and is on snow flakes for 600 bucks, another is a mk1 rabbit 4 door, car is primered, no rot at all, ready to roll drive it home for 550, my other option is a mk3 jetta, resprayed, euro bumpers, euro flares, e codes, coils, all bushing have been replaced, clutch was done, motor is a built 2.0 aba, full header back exhaust, 120k on it, needs nothing besides a chip for the cam it has, I live in mass now, and have a motorcycle so either way the car wont be driven everyday until it gets to cold to ride the bike. Im moving to providence in september, and go to school in warwick so it'll be about a 15 minute commute. Always wanted a mk1, and have a set of coils and maseratti bi turbos from a friend if I want...so for no money I can have a fun mk1.

    Opinions?

sounds like you already made your mind up. i personally wouldn't want to daily a mk1, but you have a short commute so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I drove my Mk1 Jetta coupe half a year (mostly winter) as a daily. It's not comfortable, it's not good to drive, but there's something special about driving it. It certainly makes You smile more, than when driving a Mk3.

I mean, I know it's not the best car, but still I don't want to get rid of it and am waiting for it to get on the road again.

Very well said, something about mk1's just catches my eye, its like my bobber project, its not the most comfortable thing but it makes me happy, and theres nothing like a stanced mk1 to me, its something that you have to have balls to put up with everyday I think, and we all know what thats like driving low cars.

The MK3 sounds like an obvious choice.

I'd rule out the convertible right away, because old convertibles make shitty dailies. I'd rule out the other one because a primered car won't be rot-free for long, unless you finish it.
