I'm looking at buying a 1993 BMW 318is a friend of mine is selling, and I wanted to know if there are any common problems I should look for. The car has 190,000 miles on it, which is kinda high. How long will these engines/auto trans last? What kind of gas mileage can I expect to get?

Interiors fall apart, they're slow, the engines usually leak, the profile gasket dies and you pretty much need to do a headgasket job to fix it, coils die, etc.
Probably between 25-30mpg depending on driving style. -
Ya, the M42 engine isn't the best thing BMW ever put together. The drivers seats shred themselves, they are definitely underpowered, and parts can be $$$.
