  • How to break in a hat

I figure a lot of you here on the site wear 5950 and 210 Fitted hats. Well, I just got a new one that is a bit stiff, and was wondering if anyone has an opinion on washing it or breaking it in to get it a little more flexible/softer instead of being stiff and boxy.

    Thanks guys!

I am a hat aficionado you could say. What fabric is the hat made of? What size is it, and what size do you normally wear?

      83% Acrylic, 15% Wool, 2% P.U. Spandex. It's 210 Fitted brand, 7 1/4 - 7 5/8 size.

I had an older hat that was a 210, exact same size but fit a lot better then this. I'm also sort of obsessed with hats but I'm new to this style.

I've seen posts from running the front crown under hot water, to cutting out the white thread under the crown, but before I do either drastic thing I wanted to make sure.

With wool in the blend the hat will shrink so it's not worth getting it wet, or washing it in anyway, and then you would really be screwed. 2 things I recommend, get a haircut, and just wear the hat, you will see that you grow into the hat, and the hat will fit you better as time goes on. You would be surprised just how much of a difference a minor hair cut will make.

I basically have no hair right now lol, gave myself a buzzcut so I'm already ahead there. My old hat is basically the same hat and is kinda floppy and softer then this one. I washed it once and it didn't seem to harm it, but I dont want to take a chance with this one. Thanks for the info. I'll just wear it and break it in naturally.

Yup, may be uncomfortable at first, but after a day or two, the problem should go away.

I love collecting 5950's, seriously like everyone said, just wear the hell out of it, they don't take long to "fit" perfect.

It's the tall front crown that bothers me. My older one is more rounded and not as tall. I feel like Im wearing a bucket on my head right now. Its just too stiff and tall on the front.
