  • New car decision

    Hi guys,

I turnt 18 yesterday and looking for a new car. I'm from the UK so people know how stupidly expensive our insurance premiums are. I want a RWD car that is cheap to insure that looks nice stanced and has some power behind it. Was thinking of an is200 but £2.4k on insurance don't think I can do it. Been driving VAGs for the last year but want to try and move away from them but I would drive a mk4 1.8T Golf.

So help would be much appreciated

S13/S14, Miata first cars to come to mind.

still pretty expensive in Europe, even E36 ( which I would recommend) are priced high.

I'm sure if you do any research yourself you'll find something. troll the listings.

Word. Miatas can be had for pretty cheap, at least here.

£3k on insurance for an S13/S14 so not a chance. Insurance on a BMW is about £2,400 for a 323. :S

Just need to get something that will fly seeing as that quickest car I've had so far was only 100bhp lol

Didn't the UK get E36's with 1.6L? Get one of those or a Diesel? What about E30s?

I'm guessing you're going to have end up getting a FWD N/A car, cause that will be the cheapest on insurance, Civics, Integras, B13 Sentra, come to mind first, if you don't want a VW.

E36 316 are gutless and cheaper for me to insure a 323 for some reason.

Can insure a Starlet GT Turbo for £1800 and Golf Turbo for £2k with Cupra being £2.4k. Civic ESI is £2,100 to insure.

Just thought I would ask on here as you lot stance your cars and would know what would look best out of my options.

I know how you feel Sam93, insurance in the UK is just rediculous and they have you by the balls. Luckily I'm 29 and have 11 years protected no claims with only one claim for a vehicle being stolen.

I really dont know what to recommend which would be nice and cheap and not stupid on insurance, BMW's would be completely out of the question.

what about an MR2? (not new shape) just not sure if the insurance would rape you.

Also, fronting is illegal. Don't do it.

at 18, you want something powerful AND RWD? Good luck finding that, with the 20% rough price increases on premiums, just stick to what you have for a few more years.

coming from a 21 year old with a 330ci, paying 1040 for insurance for the year.
