damn, sucks that they took his car....

i actually had something similar happen to me once...
i got pulled over for 1. no front plate 2. tinted windows 3. intake 4. exhaust 5. car too low....
i had 2 cop cars behind me and 3 cops walking around my car, looking in my engine bay, and couching around my car trying to figure out how low i was....
let me go with no tickets

wish i had a picture of that!

This is about as intellegent a decision as that Cort kid deciding to run from the cops while drunk in the S3 last time I was at H2O. (he almost ran me over)

The bolt (that is sideways) is being used as a very crude spacer to create the camber. Old Mk1 and fox VWs had a bolt on stub axle in the back (and in the front I think). This guy just put the bolt in there tightened the top, then tightened the bottom to make it a triangle, thus making 20° of camber.

He has take what is typically a rock solid design and turned it into a point of failure, the shear force on those bolts WILL cause them to fail, Here is a quote from one of my favorite automotive engineering sites about gaps in joints. I hope that the car goes to a better home at auction, as he should not be allowed to have it back.

"If a gap does form between the plates comprising the joint then the bolt or bolts are almost always subjected to non-linear loadings from bending and shear forces acting. This usually quickly leads to bolt failure. Hence it is normal to set a design criteria that the applied forces must not under any circumstances result in a gap forming within the joint. "
