Hey all I am thinking about purchasing a 2011 Subaru WRX Hatchback (Manual no nav...) or a b5 S4. I think I rather have the S4 in the long run but the Subaru is a great car, new with a warranty and a dealer to go back to if something breaks. I know most of you will argue that the Audi is cheaper as it is used but the Subaru has 1.9% financing and a warranty and honestly I don't want to cut a $12k check right now due to the economy. What do you think I should do based on financing, value, maintenance, quality and how it fits in (would a Subaru fit in with the 10+ euro tuners I hang with or would it just be out of place, like a '02 mustang at a Audi meet). Thanks for your input.

Seems like an easy decision to me.
STI trans= nearly bulletproof
sti drivetrain= awesome
Sti bearings= suckage
sti piston rings= blow dudes
sti pistons= rofl...
wrx trans= smokes the big one
wrx motor= same problems as sti but weaker
Now if you keep the car pretty much stock (intake and catback) you are ok... but i have seen a dozen this year blow up with less done to them. On top of that, you cant even launch a WRX without putting the trans in severe jeopardy.
Go to any tuner shop that does a lot of subaru work... Any day, 70% of the cars there for rebuild will be WRXs or STIs with blown trans, spun bearings or failed pistons/rings.
A wise man with an amazing subaru told me one day... "the first mod you need to do to any subaru is a fully built bottom end."
-needless to say, i didnt listen. 3,000 miles into owning my 2008 sti, a piston failed. 2 months later I spun a bearing on the same piston.. and that is just on ONE of my subarus, nevermind my 02 WRX....
I can come up with about 20 subaru horror stories and those are just recent problems with friends cars. Guys who take great care of their subaru and shit just fails. You wouldnt even imagine the amounts of rebuilds getting done to these cars nowadays
Now.. If you need a subaru. Go get yourself a well maintained, used STI for ~$18k and a RAW performance stage 2 block ~$2200 IIRC and drop it in. That will net you a very good and reliable drivetrain, strong block and zero worries.
if not....
