  • Daily Driver Candidates

    Hello.

I am going to want a new daily driver in about 6 or so months. I would like an automatic transmission at the very least, and good-to-better gas mileage for when I drive home. (FYI I also have a wagon fetish; seriously, I fucking love wagons. A lot. But I would be very happy with a sedan too if it fits my needs.)

The Dealio: I want a good looking car that I can throw some rims and bags on or at least stance to teh ground that I can call sexy. And can get at least 25-30 mpg highway. And is cheap to own long-term. And is sexy. My budget is at the absolute most around $25k and less is okay cause that means more of a buffer fund. This isn't a car bought for performance, that'll prolly be a turbo'd E30 325 when I get the means in the future.

My only real idea so far: Passat CC (w/ 2.0T and DSG for ease and mileage)
My other idea that I won't get: BMW 740i but they get shitty-ass highway mileage. Bad enough to disqualify it.
Anything Low and Slow. And sexy.

Give me some good ideas if you guys could. You guys are all about looks regardless of car, and there seems to be no real boundaries on what kind of car you guys like. I really respect that, and I'd like to see what you come up with. Just the damn font of your guy's forum makes me want to be a part of this scene.

    Thanks to you all.

I love me some euro-wagons, but none of the 5 series gets any good mileage. 23 highway is just too low.

The VW CC is a great car. I do about 300miles a week in one. smooth ride, comfortable.

E39 525i wagon? That has to get decent mileage.

The E39 does gets decent mileage, about 24 highway, and I know the EPA estimates are conservative. But it's cars like the CC that amaze me with their 31 mpg highway. Of course having a turbo'd 4 banger with FWD helps a ton.

I would love me a 2011 TDI. However, I test drove an Audi A3 for fun at a dealer and it size-wise feels just like the Mk4 Golf I had when I got my license. I think that's a little small for my tastes now. Also I didn't think the build quality of the interior represented the price I would pay for an Audi. The A6 Avant is too low in gas mileage. The greatest car would be if VW released the TDI CC here in America.

EDIT: Anyone know where I can find an old Toyota Corolla wagon? Or a Passat B3 wagon? Those things are siiiiick.

I think if I can swing it and find the right deal in the future, the car I really want is an Alpine White BMW E91 (the E90 Touring). High 20s gas mileage, I-6, unbelievable wagon looks, and could be bagged with some bright-blue rims.

Any comments? Or if not, thanks for the help guys. I don't want to rock an older E46, because I read that they changed a ton of stuff that was wrong with it. Plus it gets a few worse mpg for no real gain in horsepower or anything.

+1, I have a white E34 525i. It has a leaking headgasket and radiator, the central locking system if fubar, and the car has rust all over. Still turns over every time and starts. It's the worlds most reliable turd.

e46 330D touring, great to drive an when driven sensibly can easily achieve 45mpg+.
