Facebook portrays what you want it to, you have total control over it, so you can make yourself look a million times better on there, I anyone can be a social butterfly on the internet, takes actual skills to be one in real life.

And I don't think you were being a dick at all. Good question.

Don't think I totally get your point.. For me interet interaction in any form and to people I know, kinda know, and dont know at all will never be the same and as valuable as in person interaction.

Also, for me, Facebook and (in my exaple) car forums are much alike. In both one can pretend to be someone he/she is not in real life, and try to be all cool and 'ballin'. Countless times I meet with people on different meets who have the 'OG' or 'Baller' status on the forums, but in real life can't strike (or hold) a normal conversation. Sure they have a cool car and all, but in short they can be a really difficult to reach out to.

Haha I deleted my account a week ago and I've been fine since then. It's just a website after all. Mind you I don't have any friends, so no one has really noticed that I left ...

I totally get what you are saying, I really only talk to a few people on here, and for the most part only post in RT which is a thread where I have met most of the people in there, or at least held a conversation with for a while.

i never understood people that lie or make up shit on the internet (forums or fb) to seem cool or whatever. in the end, you'll always get found out and look like a douche. we had one guy on a forum i ran that posted up all kinds of great tech info. then we got a pm informing us it was all stolen info that he was passing off as his own, and he didnt even own any of the cars he said he did.

I totally understand you too, and I don't mean you're doing something wrong. I'm just saying that the forums can also turn out to be your 'social cage'.

Oh believe me I know haha, I had a long stint where all I would do was forums. But unlike facebook, forums don't follow you around nearly as much.

if that is the problem, why not just portray your self, as your self on fb?

I try to, but you can't display your entire personality in a small about me section, and by commenting on statuses. So people always think the best, or have expectations of you because they see the best of you on FB so they think, that's who you are. I mean obviously they know thats not the entire you, but in many cases thats their first impression. People decide to think what they want of you, before you even meet them.

things like facebook and texting are what's destroying face-to-face communication with our generation. very few people can actually talk to someone face-to-face extremely well.
