Let's face it, most of us have a facebook, and most of us spend a decent amount of time on it looking at other peoples pictures, looking at their pointless comments, and generally "stalking" them in a socially acceptable way. I am no different. But last night I made a decision to deactivate my facebook.
Why would I do this? Because I realize how much facebook effected my day to day life. I would wake up, check facebook, anytime I was free, check facebook, need to talk to someone, go to facebook. Facebook, became a major center to how I went about life. I wanted to see how much I could change with out being centered around facebook. I think it will help me move away from relying on the internet so much to talk to people. Help reduce my shyness, because I will be forced to talk to people in person, help to generally just make me a better, nicer person, who is really more social, and willing to go out and do stuff.
I realize that may have sounded pathetic, but think about it, how much time a day do you spend on facebook. Think about how important it is for you to appear "cool" and look good on your facebook, and how when in person you are trying to live up to the person you are on the internet. THAT is why I have left facebook, I want to be me. Not someone everyone thinks I am on the internet.
I guess this really does sound like a loserish thing to do, and like I am kid with no life (which is partially true, my social skills are horrid), but I am working to change that, and I really think that this is the first step.
So that being said, I will update this thread, about my "progress", and how not being on facebook has effected me day to day.
So far today, which is Day 1. I had a few urges to go back on to facebook, but I haven't. I found other things to do, and I actually got some work done too. So hopefully this keeps up, and soon enough I won't even have to think about facebook anymore.
