I feel like this would be a great thread to have here, a thread to post your theories and thoughts on the movie, and whether or not you think Dom is dreaming at the end of the film.
1. No he isnt dreaming, and even though the kids dont seem to have aged, its just because he hasnt seen them in however long, so his brain still pictures them as little kids. Its said earlier in the movie that a totem only has meaning to one person, and someone else cant use it, or even touch it. The spinning top was Mals totem, so by him using it, it doesnt mean jack shit.
2. Yes he is dreaming. Earlier in the movie when he rings the kids up, they sound older, and this is proven in the credits, there is a young and an old kid credited, with different people. So the fact that they are younger means that he is in fact dreaming.
3. The entire movie is him dreaming. Brought on by the fact that everything seems to be accepted by the other people way to quickly to be reality. If you were that girl, and you got headfucked like she did, would you really come back the next day, or would you think about it for weeks? He could actualy be in one of those dream rooms that we see during the movie.
Which could also mean that his wife is still alive, and theyre both linked together. He performed inception on her by spinning the top, planting the idea in her head that everything was dreaming. Maybe she killed herself in the dream, and just kept going down layers and is really still alive?
The entire movie is a dream. His kids at the end are wearing the same clothes, and if you pay attn everyone wears basically the same style clothing but for the 3rd leve in the snow. He is still in the dream and Mal is literally trapped in his maze. Total mind fuck that movie. I own it and have watched it numerous times. There is no other explanation. Why else wouldn't he just have his kids flown to im? Also, do you ever really see how each scene comes to be or do they just end up where they are?? Seee.............
Im with petis on this one. Dom always seems to be running from someone. But who are they? My theory is that he's in someone elses dream an is being chased by the person 'subconcious security'
Further to the theory that he is dreaming throughout, he goes to see his dad right? But he's not allowed into america and he just ends up being there. Still a brilliant film, in as much that months after its release, we're still talking about it.
At the end he is not dreaming. I arrive at this conclusion because of his wedding ring, or lack there of. When he is dreaming he has the wedding ring on, however when he is not dreaming he is not wearing the ring. Its one of those things you really have to look for. A theory I was told by another, and now really makes sense is that his totem is seeing his children's faces. He only ever sees them when he is dreaming, but never their faces. However when he is awake he never has flashes of his children. Regardless of whether the top at the end falls, it doesn't matter because that is not his totem, its Mal's and as we find out you cannot use another person's totem.
i was hoping i'd never hear about this movie again. IMO, the most retarded movie ever! i was so glad to see the Southpark parody...at least someone else thought it was ridiculous.
The totems will work with other people, that's why (Joseph levitts's character) didn't let Ariadne touch his, and told her only she should know the true weight/balance/difference/whatever of her totem. Which obviously means that it's something worth keeping secretive.
After all, it does fall over at one point, so if, the whole movie was a dream, I doubt the results of spinning the top wouldn't have fluctuated like it did.
