Anyone into Home A/V?

I got a question.

I Aquired a new Stand for Xmas and Took everything off the old one and installed it in the new stand. Now I get a hum from the speakers when the amps in the A/N In. It didn't do this before, So i really have no idea. I tried Seperating its power cable from the HDPVR's since i ziptie my cables together for neatness and no difference. Only thing i can think of is The metal posts on my new stand maybe? Any help would be apreciated. All the connections are proper and solid too. So thats not them

Metal on the posts will cause that, make sure the wires aren't touching them, or aren't really close to them. Pictures in this case may help.

What speakers/amp are we talking about as well?

Took the Amp into another room. just plugged the amp power in and then a speaker and still humming.

its an older 02ish Venturer Home amp with the speakers.

easiest way is buy power conditioner and/or good power cords

a cheap easy fix would be anything Panamax for power conditioning

make sure you try not to run your signal and power wires next to each other- try to cross all wires at a 90 degree if possible


the problem is as you get into higher end equipment the more susceptible to any interference it becomes

The thing is it Worked as of 11am, no humming. Nothings changed as far as wiring. I just switched it from one tv stand to another.

Also Kielan, I looked inside and cannot see anything burnt or blown. or unusual.

It's very possible that when you unplugged the amp, it could of shorted. Static electricity can be the cause.

When you hear the hum, does it get louder as you turn up the volume or is it the same? And is the hum on all sources such as dvd player, cable box or game console?

the humm does get louder and quieter. Its a HTIB amp so its got DVD/AV/Radio. AV and DVD both have the hum but the radio doesnt and i actually get music from it.

If the hum coming from a dvd player that's built in, then chances are the receiver could have fried. When an old electronic is on for a long long long period of time and then gets unplugged, it's possible once the capacitors release all the energy and once there's no current, things bound to happen.

It is also possible that your speaker wires have interference, but that wouldn't explain the no hum on the radio.

Like someone already stated, a power conditioner. This is a good possibility that this could fix your problem. The conditioners help clean out the power and regulate it at a rate for power hogging electronics. Cleaner power also helps electronics function properly, for example, if you had one before then would wouldn't need help now. It's possible that the draw of power need for the dvd player or which ever gives you a hum is not getting the power it needs. Then again, you plugging it into another room with a speaker doesn't really help this option.

My honest guess, you might need to look into a new HTiB, since the receivers are not interchangeable and is best to just get a new set.
