I agree with the neutral color. Although I really like bright colors, the orange makes me feel like I'm trying to make sure I don't get shot by a hunter.

As for the boots, that's true but it was worth a shot. Because the dress shoes (which are most likely not the ones he will actually get) look awful to me.

Lots of options for desert boots/chukkas, they're not all that dressy looking. There's bound to be a pair that he'd like. The biggest hurdle, going from sneaks to dress shoes or boots is the feel of having an elevated heel. Once you get over that and stop walking funny, you'll be fine.

They're a good alternative to sneakers, for everyday use. Those black shoes are way more shithead than a nice pair of sneakers though.
