Attacking the dragon

I am just wanting to put a feeler out there for this.

On October 29th I turn 28, and my plan is to trek the 3000kms with my cars from Yorkton SK to Deals Gap NC and spend my birthday on the Tail of the Dragon

I just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in meeting up in the area, as it stands now, I am meeting up with a friend from TN, and I have 2 friends wanting to caravan that way with me so the current listing of vehicles are as follows:

1993 Eagle vision
1999 Dodge Intrepid
2010 Toyota Camry
2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Obviously no power house amazing cars, but we are going to experience the dragon, and check out any of the other roads in the area.

So if interested or if there is anything along the route I should check out along the way let me know!!

You should hit up the Skyline drive while you're down there for sure. You don't need a very powerful car to have fun down there, but it helps to have some suspension work and sticky tires Most of the roads down there are pretty fun to drive honestly, I've been down 3 times and it's always a blast especially if you have a decent crew.

I should be going again this year, but it'll probably be some time in the summer so we can do rafting and enjoy the pool and such again.

I was told by my friend in Chattanooga TN that there is less tourist in October so less traffic on the roads, and my birthday falls on the 29th of Oct, so it makes sense.

For suspension work, I do have the H&R's installed and new struts all around, and upgraded my swaybars front and rear. Just need sticky tires and upgrade my brakes and I should be Golden!!

Thanks for mentioning Skyline driver, I wanna make the trip there worth it so I want to take in everything I can while I am there, of course leaving enough to warrant coming back again and again!!

There's a big loop that takes your around the Dragon and through the Cherohala Skyway as well. I believe it's about 120 miles and includes a ton of scenic views and is well worth it. I've already been up twice this year and my advice to you is to ride the roads on a weekday. Especially if you plan on going in October, it's the beginning of fall and the leaf-chasers tend to make a run for the mountains.

If you want the full experience, stay at the Fontana Dam Resort. Last I stayed there it cost us about $200 for a full weekend in a nice room and there's tons of things to do when you're not riding the Dragon. The rooms/cabins at the Resort are all of 20 minutes from the Dragon and about an hour from the Skyway. It's a great place to stay while you're there.

It's an awesome vacation and I personally can't wait to get back up there. Check out the Tail of the Dragon website for links and updates on everything happening up there and I hope you enjoy your trip whenever you do go. And trust me, speed gets you killed on that road. A good suspension and tire setup is all you need.

I should have the suspension dialed in for it. H&R drop springs and KYB GR-2 struts all around, 300M special front and rear swaybars (larger in size that other factory LH pieces) I just need to do new pads and rotors all around and get some nice sticky tires for my milles, and pick up an Eibach camber kit for up front and swap in adjustable rear arms from one of my parts cars and I can rock -1 degree all around.

And I am meeting up with a friend that likes to partake in driving the dragon as often as he can, so I will have a seasoned veteran on their leading the way. I know its early, but I think it would be cool to meet up with people from here and get to actually see some of these works of art out rolling

The tail is cool, but Hellbender (US 28) and The Skyway are also great roads. The tail just gets mobbed with tourists and showoff sportbikers. I'll totally try to make it out to it!

I can bring it along, can't guarantee how it will taste after a 3000km journey tho...

But I could bring cheese curds to add to fries and gravy!
