  • The S65 AMG Hits The Dyno!

No, it didn’t LITERALLY hit the dyno, it just went on there and made some noises. Which, of course, we caught on tape.

The following is a quick series of dyno runs with the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG we’ve had around the shop for exhaust development. It only contains two modifications at the time: A fully custom Fluid MotorUnion exhaust including catless downpipes, and the ECU tune. The exhaust will be removed and shipped to a customer, but we wanted to try and capture some of its sound before it left the dyno.

Power numbers are irrelevant at the moment, since the ECU tune is for the stock exhaust, but suffice to say wheel power is somewhere around 515 with this specific setup. Wheel torque peaks at around 625, but we know there’s more on tap for both. If the tune were specifically aimed at a catless exhaust, power gains would be even higher than what you see here.

In the meantime, enjoy the video! There’s a camera-related technical glitch in the first two dyno runs, so only the right channel of audio picked anything up. We remedied that for the second half of the video, however.

Just like Erick’s SL65 AMG, this thing is a bassy beast, and as a result tends to peak out the microphone. You can also hear the lovely noise of the sticky Continental tires on the dyno. Enjoy the video and have a safe and fantastic Memorial Day weekend! We’ll see you on Tuesday!

Yep! It's such a funky thing to watch. It happened with the SL65 we had on the dyno, also. Those cars like to squat (and for good reason, with 625+ wtq on tap) and the self-leveling suspension doesn't know when it's on the dyno so it just tries to make up for that.

I never really notice it until post-production. But then again, the noise is kinda the only thing you can think about when you're in the dyno room without ear protection (I went to Warped Tours aplenty as a kid and been barricade for many a band; nothing I've experienced here has been louder than that so I tend to get a bit reckless with ear protection).
