We’ve had this blog for over a year now, updating almost every weekday, and we haven’t made the cowbell joke until now? Wow.
Today, we once again shift the focus back to Eric’s Z4M. The filter setup (including Smurf Pants) wasn’t really working the way we wanted it to, nor was it very aesthetically pleasing within the engine bay, so we decided to do a quick re-do of that area of the intake setup. Smurf Pants is becoming a Smurf Miniskirt as we prepare to add a Cowbell to the mix.
Essentially, the purpose of the Cowbell is to better channel the air from Eric’s RPI intake scoop directly to the airbox. The two shots you see above are of the Cowbell just before it went into the final welding process (making it a little less cowbell-shaped, much to your narrator’s chagrin). The front end of the Cowbell will come up directly next to the RPI scoop, taking the air from the scoop and channeling it directly into the Bimmerworld carbon fiber airbox. We plan to move the filter back and up within the intake assembly a bit — which we’ll explain in a later blog post — so for now, let’s see what shape that Cowbell formed into:
The left side of the photo is where the Cowbell meets the RPI intake scoop. The right side, that flat plane of aluminum, is where the Cowbell bolts to the frame. That’s right; no loose pieces or rattles here. Three gratuitous welding shots incoming!
And here is how it looks, bolted into its home. If it were black, it would look completely OEM. Which is exactly what we were aiming for in this setup.
Halfway through the week. With Thanksgiving coming up next week, time just keeps moving faster and faster.
