  • Meth-in' Around (with video!)

Late on Friday night, we did some dyno runs of the E90 with the water-meth fully operational. And yes, of course, we captured it on video.

There’s nothing quite like standing directly in front of a vehicle doing a dyno run, all for the sake of capturing the right moment. The ear protectors did a great job of keeping the noise down, but there’s no substitute for the feeling you get as the FMU E90 surges forward under load. One snap of the straps and that’s all, folks. But thankfully your humble narrator doesn’t mind putting his well-being on the lane for the right photograph. Perhaps I’m being a bit melodramatic, but it was definitely a little bit of a rush. And the results make the risk seem negligible.

    Awesome! That thing sounds amazing.

Now I have a question to ask, Dont take this as ****. But Why do you guys make multiple threads about/on the same thing? and not just update the other?

Updating the thread in the showroom will work, but I can't change the title so people won't know if it's updated or not, others just won't think to check back, etc.

Maximum exposure, essentially. There are times when I'll see people post in showroom that never venture out into our forum, and vice versa also. I like it when lots of people check out my videos. Gives me a good feeling inside.

            What's the power gain?

I know nothing about methanol injection. I'm sure it's purpose is more power, but is there any additional benefit to going the meth-injected route?

It's a lot more interesting than forced induction, and we're not going for all-out power. If anything, this setup is helping us prove without a doubt that meth increases power on NA vehicles (with fast enough knock detection systems). It's just another option to consider; obviously our setup is more trick, but regular meth-injection systems should see similar benefits as ours.

If meth ups the octane, then the engine should continually make the timing more aggressive and therefore increase the power. That's the simplified theory behind it.

We're still hammering out the tune and adaptations to deal with the meth, so no numbers yet, just sounds and pictures. When it's ready, though, we'll make it known that it's ready

I'm down for anything that was used in WW2 fighters, especially if it helps prevent detonation and the side effect just HAPPENS to be a higher octane fuel mixture :P

Pretty neat. I just wasn't sure of the reasoning behind it, whether it was a colder charge of air, more power, etc. Thanks for clearing that up.
