Ford 302 5.0 and LS series engines are the most popular that I've seen for the miata

honestly I'd just do a Ford 5.0 + T-5 swap. They're cheap, parts are cheap, easy to come by and make good power for a tiny miata

edit: also since the swap has been done many times companies make the parts to swap them in (motor/trans mounts, headers, etc.)

How much do you think I'd be paying with all parts and installation roughly?

I haven't looked and I don't know what your area is like for used parts. The biggest expenses are going to be your motor/trans mounts and wiring I would think. If you know any or have any friends that are fabricators they can make you some mounts, and wiring can be done DIY but time consuming. Do a search from google for monster miata or miata v8 and you'll find a lot of good info. Biggest part of any swap I'd say is research
