  • E28 guys...need some oil pan help

Is it possible to drop the oil pan without dropping the front subframe? I read somewhere that you need to, but i was looking at it today and it looks like i may be able to pull it off without. Anyone ever done it? Its a 528e

You can't pull it of because of the oil pump. You'll need to loosen the subframe.

Passenger side is a lil soft but the drivers side is rock hard on the same piece. Edited a pick, the bolt id the red arrow the other piece blocking it has the yellow arrow going to it.

I've gotten away with it, here's how. Drain oil, unbolt all the oil pan bolts with a 10mm on an extension and let the pan rest on the subframe. Then with the gap you get from resting it on the subframe, you can slide an open end in there and unbolt the oil pickup by the three 13mm bolts. the oil pickup along with its driveshaft will fall into the oil pan and you can slide it all out. Then to put it back in, slide the pan under the engine with the pickup still loose, then when you have it under there, you can raise the pickup (making sure it's little driveshaft is stil in place) and bolt it back onto the engine then raise the pan, bolt it all down, and bam you're done. It sucks but it can get you by if you're in a tight squeeze without a hoist or anything
