  • What kind of amp do I need for 400w speakers?

    Hi!
I want to buy additional speakers for my Hummer to put them on the dash of the trunk and I don't know exactly if these ones that I want to buy can go with my amp that I currently have.

    Currently I have 4 speakers.
2 Alpine 5-1/4" speakers with separated tweeters
    Peak Power: 250W (50w rated)
    Frequency Response: 60Hz-20kHz
    Sensitivity: 90dB/W/m

    2 rear Sony Xplod XS-R1344 5-1/4" 4-Way Speakers
    Peak Power: 160W (35W Rated)
    Frequency Response: 60Hz-23kHz

I don't know much about electronics and vechicle music so I need advice from someone.

I know a little bit about speakers. If I were you I would amp them separately. A 250Wx1 amp for the front and wire the speakers in parallel. And for the rear a 150wx1 and parrallel wiring. If you only want one amp look for one that makes at least 50wx2 but you can go all the way to 160x2. I would also look for a 6x9 speaker for the rear if they'll fit where the xplods are. With the 2 channel amp though you just wire them like you would for 2 amps and plug them into the amp.

As for powering the amp and running the wires just watch some YouTube videos there's a lot that explain things very well.

add up the rms of the speakers which is 170w rms (rated power). buy an amp with at least 200w rms.

Any basic 4ch amp would be fine, kicker makes a dx250.4 that would do you fine and its cheap

        build thread?
