  • Ideal cars to put rotary in - future plans

    Hi.

Ever since I come across rotarys, from youtube and such, I fugured, I want to create my own project, a car with rotary. but those old mazda rx's are rare and expensive her i norway, building one up would then be out of the questinon, so i figuerd; why dont just put it in some other car, but finding the right one is not that easy, and should I come across one, its preety expencive as said over here.
I could ofcource just buy my self an RX7, but it not to many of those here either, and I want an older car, like from the '70's or something.

would cars like Ke70 (yes, i know ke70s is from the 80's, but i find them being pretty cool, if things are done right) and such fit? they are low on weight, which is good, thinkin of that rotary engines have less nm then piston engines.

So do you guys have any good ideas of cars that would fit for this? prefarably 2 door sedan though, and it has to be able to be dropped pretty low ofcourse

Sorry about typos and bad english
    Thanx in advance.

Edit: if I posted this in the wrong section, please let me know.

If you have the ability to fabricate custom mounts and everything necessary, any car can work. Here's an example of a Corolla in the United states that has a great rotary swap.

Like I said, it's going to take custom work, but just about any car will work as far as I know. They're small motors with not a whole lot to them so they fit in any engine bay.

What the f**k is a build thread?

        Love the corolla
getting the engine and transmission to fit shouldent be too much of a problem I suposse, but would'nt the weight be a problem? like if its 2 ton. I heard that rotarys have a lack of momentum, compared to a piston engine.

I was actually thinking of taking an engine out of a rx7 (read; buying a separate one), 'cause they are way more easy to find, than the N/A ones. though not sure about getting the wiring right. having a N/A instead would be easier that way.

Rotarys are small, but they weigh close to 400lbs. It may fit in the engine bay easily, but make sure it doesn't weigh more then the engine you pull out.

400lbs, that about 180kg.. isnt that alot? compared to most jap engines? 4age to name one that is used in ke70 as a usual engine swap.

beauty of a rotary is that its compact and brings the center of gravity down as well as can be positioned deep into the engine bay/frame.

as for a chassis do up something unique! maybe a lada, old volvo, old morris minor, ect? Im not sure what you can get in your neck of the woods but im sure there's something cool out there.

Also if your going for a bit of nostalgia, I'd look into an old German chassis because Felix Wankel (the inventor of the rotary) was a german (although Mazda mastered the combustion chamber sealing issues that plagued Felix and other rotary hopefuls)

              just a thought

old volvos and other european cars are pretty usual over here, so getting an old japanese car or something, would be quiet unique, ke70's as i mentioned earliere are kinda rare here, especaly the 2 doors, atleast I havent seen alot of them. but ofcourse, a even more unique car would be best, 'cause I **** it when everyone else have the same car as me.. and in adition to having a rotary engine, which is rare over here, a unique chassi would be even better.

Will continue looking for rare chassis that looks cool. though if you have any ideas if a cool chassi that would be avalable here i norway, I'd apreciate it
