  • is my hub stripped? (e36)

so im a little confused.... i put salad shooters on my e36 (click here) I was using universal spacers from auto zone that are about 8mm thick. doubles those up and used extended bolts up from to clear my coils. i ordered 15mm spacers on bimmerforums, didn't think about it till after i sent money that i should of gotten 20mm. so i got the 15's in the mail, put them on with 1 of the universals and it fit perfect on the one side, the other side however only 3 bolts would tighten completely. the other 2 would start to get tight but once you add a little more pressure they would break loose. so bought a tap and die set and the size i needed (12mm 1.5) was too small for the holes. then i took my stock size lug bolts and screwed them straight into the hub without a wheel on and they were fine.

I'm thinking maybe those 2 holes are slightly stripped in the first thread or 2, causing me to not be able to get them started. maybe if i try longer bolts ill be fine?

also, even with my stock wheels i need one of those small universal spacers to clear the coilover and i still have the same issue with 2 of the bolts not tightening properly.

SO, do you think 2 longer bolts will work or should i just try to get another hub off a parts car? any help is greatly appreciated

If you don't have but a couple threads deep...I would look into longer bolts regardless of if they would thread in or not. I also don't know that I would use a stack of spacers rather than a solid billet or some other metal spacer.

might as well try that and see if it works. and i just used them to help figure out how big of spacers i can get. I'm ordering new spacers soon

I think the small variance in the bolt patterns and some not so careful mounting may have done something.

You should really have adapters, stacking universal spacers that you cant get sitting straight is a super bad idea.

makes sense but it's only .65mm difference.. the only difference I've noticed with these wheels when bolting them on is the hub
