  • Please need help tire issue (stretched tires)

Ok so i'm gonna start out bye saying i'm not a newb to this and im legit in need of help from alot of you more knowledgable guys on the forum... I am a certified tech so im familiar with the automotive world...

    Fikse fm5s

    specs front:
18x9 front with a 215-35-18 nankang ns2 tires and have a considerable amount of stretch and have never had any issues on the front after 2 yrs of driving...

    specs rear:
18x9.5 with a 225-35-18 nankang ns2 tires that are a decent amount of stretch

    my issue:
I have been running this setup for almost 2 years now my front wheels have never had an issue i bent one last year had it straightened and been fine.. The rears i constantly have issues with them loosing air... i cracked 2 inner barrels last year which i replaced the inner barrels and still same problem... Everytime i go to my car i have to check the tires which results into me having to add air 2-3 times a week if not more... I've had them looked over checked for run out, checked for straightness checked at Rimpro i've dunked the wheels 100s of times in water with soap with no luck finding a leak and they still lose air i've even replaced the tires because i thought that was the issue... Now with the air issue i dont notice the tires being lower than 30psi which ends up making them more vulnerable to cracking which has happened again due too a decent amount of negative camber and low air combined with our amazing New England roads... I'm replacing the inner barrels again and i need help is there something i can do??? Is there something i'm doing wrong???? Do all you stretched guys have issues with this please i'm on my last leg of trying to figure this out and i've run out of options and its putting a dampening on enjoying my car the way i should...

Any real info would be helpful and much appreciated please help i know there's alot of ideas you guys have on this website please help

    :roll eyes

The FM5 is a 1 pc wheel, right? If so, that rules out my suggestion of checking the hardware...

I know you said you dunked the wheels, but the only way you're going to find leaks is with water. Get a bucket of REALLY soapy water and a sponge. Cover every inch of the tire, and the bead area, with the soapy water. Then put like 40psi in the tire. Look the wheel over very carefully. You'll see bubbles where air is escaping. Also, check the valve stem. This is easiest if you do it with the wheel off the car.

EDIT: Are you using a bead sealer? How much air did you use to seat the beads? Is this happening with more than one set of tires?

The Fm5 is a 3 piece wheel and thank you for the advice and instructions. As stated above i am a certified tech soo yes ive tried all the normal scenarios. I have found that where the wheels are put together is the spot they are leaking but thank you for your input.
so now i know where they are usually losing air. I am in the process of rebuilding them now too see if this is gonna fix my problem..

ive heard removing the tyres and washing the wheels does help also. washing basically the area the tyre covers. clean and smooth.
