  • How do you jack up your e36?

After lowering your e36 how do you jack it up to work on it? I can't fit my old jack under the car and would prefer to spend the money on parts rather than a new jack. I looked at these but friends of mine have said that theirs have snapped while they were working on their car. What do you do?

drive your car on wood and slowly go higher, until you can reach it

i have the pelican parts jack pad, can fit my jack under the diff in the back, or i use the factory jack to jack it up worst case.

you should never use any jack as the only support while working on a car. jack the car up then throw some stands under it.

^^ my friends have had those break on them though... That's the only reason why I don't want them.

the only way something like that can break is if they are using shit material or it breaks off because of weak penetration welds. i'd believe its the latter. i have used the ecstuning one for over a year and its never failed on me. just weld up the corners for a stronger mount. also as mentioned, this tool is not to support the car. its just to get the car up on jack stands

the Bavauto one is welded better than that. and the breaking is most likely due to user error, it should only be used for jacking the car (then hold with jack stands) and be sure to align the jack under the shaft.

I only jack my car when I'm doing simple things so I don't even bother throwing it on jack stands... I'm just doing the brakes. When its something more complex I take it to my friends house since he has a lift. I kinda liked the idea of driving onto wood and then jacking the car, if that is safe?

I've always used a 2x4 to get the car up a bit then put a jack under there. Don't forget to put the 2x4 back under the wheel while lowering the car back down. If you don't you will want to kick yourself because the jack is now stuck haha

I drive on blocks of wood any time I jack up a slammed car. I wont even leave the house without blocks in the Q because there'd be no way to jack it up without them. The oem e36 jacks are kind of nice though because you can lay the car on the ground and still be able to jack it up lol

I have an e46, but i also use wood. I have longer 2x4 and then a second shorter one screwed into the long one. So it is kinda like a step. i always just stick it behind the rear wheel and back onto it. its just easier then trying to get the front up, plus when jacking up the back corners it also lifts up the front corners.

i've tried other things like those plastic ramps that are specifically for lowered cars to get jacks under them, but they just arent tall enough to get the jack under the car. thats why i reverted back to the good old 2x4's

I carry two Takada Low Down Slopes in the trunk. I've stacked them when I lost air in the shocks to get the car high enough off the ground. Race Ramps also makes lightweight foam ramps in many different angles but they're expensive.
