Can't see the pics, so not 100% sure...

But isn't this the same one that was being sold earlier for like 30-ishK? I remember some guy was selling a black non GTR R34 here and had this elaborate (read: illegal as hell) scheme to have it titled? Something like, you buy it, he trailers it down to FL, from NY, gets it 'titled' from a friend, and then it's legal? Or something of that nature?

Not doubting the legality, because I know strange things can happen. But seriously, legally importing a skyline is expensive. I haven't looked into importing lately, in the past year, did I miss something where they removed the crash test? I remember I looked into getting an old EVO and I had to buy 4, to legally import 1. 3 were meant to get crash tested, one for the front, one for the rear, and one for the side. Did this get removed?

Just consider this a free bump, but hey if you want people to stop calling your bluff, just post the DOT letter clearly showing the VIN. If you don't have a letter exempting it, it's sadly not legal. Don't know what to tell you.

Figured that, weren't the only legally imported ones the R32s that got run through Motorex? Bummer that we can't have one, even if it abides by the 25year law. But damn dude, it sure will suck if this one gets crushed, such a nice car.

My advice, don't drive it on the street.

                    Good luck with that.

Also, if you plan on buying this, you should be informed.

It was my understanding that they did legally import a couple hundred. They declared bankruptcy and destroyed the schematics needed to make them legal for both safety and smog, so no one else could copy what they did. That may all be a wise tale though.

There were R33s and R34s legalized through Motorex as well. The Seattle area used to have a handful of them, mostly belonging to the guys that ran Garage SPL back in the day, although there was a red R34 that belonged to somebody at another shop and a black R32 with an ugly vented hood that belonged to some dude named Rob. Anyway, Motorex crash tested them, added side impact reinforcements to comply with DOT regulations, and added three catalytic converters to meet EPA standards. But, Hiro Nanahoshi at Motorex was supposedly a cokehead and he started releasing Skylines to customers before they were fully legalized. The DOT got wind of this in '05 and rescinded Motorex's import license. And then there was a bunch of other bullshit with Nanahoshi assaulting some dude and some cars getting "stolen". In the aftermath, Motorex closed its doors. But, in '06 the DOT provided bond releases to the owners who had picked up their cars from Motorex, and those cars are legal.

                        As for other Skylines, YMMV.

Ah, I knew there was some fishy stuff about the brand, just never really looked into cause I was never interested in skylines (besides the r26). They just seem played out, thanks for the info though!

Some little details missing, but that's the best article out there about Motorex.

The crash-tested car was a later model R33 with airbags, meaning it was the least expensive model with the most safety equipment. After getting it to pass, all other models were claimed to be "substantially similar". The DOT bought it, and Motorex imported cars for years this way.

Once Motorex started to attract some negative attention, the DOT re-reviewed the case and rescinded their approval for all but 96+ R33s. You can see the line for it on the NHTSA eligible imports list. Cars after 1996 are supposed to have OBD2, which was not part of the conversion, so Motorex was completely stopped.

It's possible to convert to OBD2, but absolutely not easy. An RB26 can be run successfully using a 300zx computer. US Specs LLC was able to conform at least one car after Motorex was shut down. The conversion documents have been public for a long time, which is how US Specs was able to complete the rest of the modifications. I have a copy of the document on my computer.

I parked my car outside of the FBI's HQ in NYC, nothing but smiles and pictures I don't really care about the articles you guys pull up from nico club and jalopnik. What you're doing here is reading a biology textbook, and then going to a doctor and telling them that they don't know what they're doing and that you have more experience. I dealt with a very well known importer, he got it legalized, I have my car insured, titled, and registered. I've driven it for the past 4 months and put about 5k miles on it. You can tip the FBI all you want, car is still for sale. Not sure if I explained it or not, but I'm 16 and need money for my college tuition. Sure the car is fun, but getting a degree and making money is better.
