Never had anything to post until now. I was hoping to post a build/progress thread on this when I get real wheels, but that never happened. I had big plans with this car, but life got in the way. **** to sell it, but I have to. Anyways...
Up for sale is my 1976 Triumph TR6. This car is loads of fun to drive! I get honks and thumbs-up every time I take it out. Everyone has a story about an old Triumph they used to have.
Location: Mount Prospect, IL 60056
Price:$9,000
I purchased the TR6 five years ago (7/2010) with the intention of building it into a summer cruiser as well as an autocross vehicle. I do drive it in the summers, but have yet to autocross it. I've always wanted to put it on air and slam it too, but wanted to work on the mechanicals and reliability first.
Motor fires up and runs very strong. Transmission shifts smoothly into all gears (4-speed without OD). There is little to no rust on the frame (the car was Ziebarted from the dealership in '76). It currently has ~74,000 miles on it. The suspension is brand new front and rear with upgraded components.
The below list was completed during my ownership of the car unless stated otherwise:
Front suspension:
Custom adjustable upper control arms to dial in caster and camber
RG Goodparts 1" lowering springs (with polyurethane spring packs)
RG Goodparts Nylatron bushings
GAZ race shocks. UK spec'd
Brand new ball joints
Brand new spindles and hardware
Brand new Grade 8 hardware
Sandblasted, rust proofed, and repainted all suspension components
Sanded, rust proofed and repainted the frame
Rear suspension:
RG Goodparts 1" lowering springs (with polyurethane spring packs)
RG Goodparts Nylatron bushings
Brand new Grade 8 hardware
Rebuilt lever-shocks with new oil and stiffer internal springs
RG adjustable trailing arm brackets
Brakes:
New master cylinder
New brake drum shoes
Uprated 7/8" bore wheel cylinders
New drum hardware
New rubber brake lines front and rear
New rear hard lines
I have new front brake pads to go with the car. When I rebuilt the suspension, I checked the brakes; the pads were in excellent shape and the rotors were in spec. The bearings were repacked and the system was flushed with new fluid.
Wheels and tires:
16x8+10 Rota Grid Offroad Concave
225/50/16 Dunlop Direzza DZ102 (<1000 miles on them)
Engine:
Motor was rebuilt ~9 years ago when the previous owner had it.
GP2 or GP3 Cam (installed while PO had motor rebuild)
Copper thrust washers
Triple Weber DCOE 40's
Ratco throttle linkage
Rebuilt distributor by Advanced Distributors in 2013
All emissions equipment removed (but included)
6-2-1 exhaust heater into a 2.5" custom exhaust
Coolant hoses replaced in 2012
Oil changed every 3000 miles or at least every driving season
New plugs, cap and rotor 8/2013
Art Lipp throttle bushings
PVC valve (provides modern positive crankcase ventilation)
Electric fuel pump
Innovate wideband O2 sensor with gauge in eyeball vent. This is a great tool for tuning and monitoring the motor.
Drivetrain:
RG Goodparts HD hubs with uprated u-joints
RG Goodparts HD stud kit (Keenserted trailing arms where hubs are bolted)
Polyurethane differential mounts (differential pins were in good shape with no cracks to the mounts; a common problem with TR6's)
Clutch slave cylinder replaced in 2012
Trans and diff oil replaced 8/2013
Interior:
Radio works, but will not eject CD every time. (PO installed)
Miata seats with headrest speakers wired into radio
RS style door pulls
Aluminum window crank and door locks
Roll bar
Fire extinguisher (since its Lucas electrical...)
Other misc:
Hardtop with tinted Lexan
Convertible top (needs new top, but original is included)
Hella 500 driving lights
RG Goodparts aluminum radiator shroud
RG Goodparts aluminum steering rack mounts (not installed, but included)
Art Lipp steering bushings (not installed, but included)
Original seats- need rebuilding (included)
Original ZS carbs- need rebuilding (included)
Union Jack TR6 logos for exterior (included)
Bumper over riders (included)
Front bumper in good condition (included)
Front license plate bracket (included)
Factory steel wheels with trim rings (included)
Lot of miscellaneous parts and pieces I've collected over the years.
The bad:
Top is original and will need to be replaced if you intend to use it (I never saw the need for a new top since this car was only used in nice weather and it has a hardtop)
Motor is running rich- very easy to swap jets on the Webers
Engine rear oil seal is leaking a little
Tonneau cover will need to be modified to fit around the roll bar and seats if the hardtop isn't used
U-joints in driveshaft need to be replaced
Rear shocks need replacing. Rebuilt 3 years ago
The body was repainted 11 years ago in its factory white color. The paint is rough with some blisters and chips
There is rust on the passenger side rocker panel and rear end as shown
Rust on the corner of the hardtop
Driver-side front fender dented
One small chunk out of one of the new tires from contacting fender (the dented one) (happened prior to alignment)
No headliner on the hardtop, but sound deadener was installed on the roof
Engine bay looks dirty because of the Ziebart treatment
If I were to keep it, the next projects I'd complete are the rear lever-arm shocks and tuning the Webers a little more. Other than that, it's a perfect driver as she sits.
$9,000 and I already regret selling her, but I need to make room in my garage for the next project. It has a clean IL title in my name ready to sign over to the next enthusiast!
