  • FEELER: Bagged 1981 VW Rabbit / Caddy Truck -wheels/4 link

    Hey folks,

Being your own wheel! Tow it home. Has a problem in the linkage- bar pops off when you put it in third. Needs trans mounts. Which i have.

Car: 1981 Rabbit Truck or Caddy. 260k on the body.
Motor: 1.6 diesel. Milage is about 125k. Super strong with a 5 speed transmission
Suspension: full airride, front and rear, 5 gallon tank mounted under the bed, bag over coil up front, manual management, rear 4 linked by myself, kit by Nick W. Adds full adjusent about 3 inches of lift, 2 inches lower. I'll add photos today. OSVW raised strut towers, and a strut bar.
    Wheels: Being your own set.
Interior: originally red, swapped to beige, corrado seats with wooden beads, needs headliner, and a new carpet, 80's wood Mooneyes steering wheel, sun roof, rare bubble window

    Nutshell pros and cons
Pros: Minimal body rust, diesel, 5 speed, original front end, original paint, air ride front and rear, 3pc Hoshino impuls,
Alternator, battery, plugs, terminals are all only a few months old.

Cons: Minimal rust left, sloppy shifter, needs carpet and headliner, leaks rain water, wipers are touchy (relay i think), bed isn't great, bump steer, strut bushings are loud and need replaced. Strut tower had a massive hole. Which was cut out and repaired. Tach hasn't worker since swap, and milage doesn't increase anymore (since i bought it)

I swapped the original and tired motor out about two months ago, needed new rings, a pump rebuild etc. And my friend offered me his 1.6 with a 5 speed attached, so i took his offer and swapped it in.
Shifter is super sloppy, its been aligned with all new bushings. But trans mounts need installed.

I have no issue keeping the truck and getting all of the little things it needs finished over time. But I am testing the waters, times are tight and freetime isn't what it used to be.

Happy to answer any questions or provide any photos.
