  • FS: 1983 VW Rabbit LS (NC)

I purchased this 6yrs ago to build a cheap and fun DD with plans to 2.0 swap, round conversion, Mk2 interior, etc. Less than a month after purchasing I found out I was going to be a father. Right after my son was born the wife was laid off ('08) and money/time became real short. Managed to get some stuff done over the years and I've held on hoping I could get back to it, but life and priorities change. Time to move on and let someone else have fun with it.

    Basic details:
1983 shell (showing 200k on cluster, actual unknown) in med frost blue (LE5U)
1.8 JH and 5-spd swap done by PO
New coilovers (can't remember brand, purchased off Ebay UK "made in germany" and imported)
14x6.5" et 30 BBS RAs with new Federal FD1 165/55/14s.
    Small duckbill

    Incl with sale:
OE round headlight front fenders, grill and buckets off convertible
    Scirocco k-bar
    Original 13" steelies with caps
    Extra bulk carpet

    The good:
Body is super straight with no cancer (only a couple small surface spots and "patina"). Never been hit, all original panels and glass. Floors have been jacked on, but were solid. Spare well, towers, rockers, fenders, floor and fascias are solid. New carpet and sound deadening on the floor. 8V Scirocco front sport seats in really good condition. Starts on first try and runs/drives well. Transmission/clutch feel solid and has new shifter bushings are installed. Fuel system has been completely gone through with new fuel tank, bosch pump and filter. Lines and injectors were cleaned in an ultrasonic tank. Brakes have been gone through with new pads, fluid and rear bearings. All lights work. Heat works (no a/c installed). I'm sure there are little things I'm forgetting.

    The bad:
Exterior: There is a small dent on the roof over the passenger door, pass door has a small dent under mirror (causing it to sag), a small dent on rear hatch and the lower front pass fender is a little tweaked from what I suspect was a ball joint failure. Front core support is also slightly tweaked (had to pull the car a short distance when the bumpers were off). Rear hatch latch button doesn't work so hatch has to be popped from inside.

Interior: Carpet is new, but ACC sucks and its too short on the sides so it doesn't reach the door sill plates completely. Front gti door panels are warped. Dash is cracked. No radio currently in it, but I have a JVC deck and some speakers I will include with the sale. Tach works intermittently. No visors, but the headliner card is there (with torn headliner).

Engine: the ear that holds the accessories on the top of the head is busted off and the PO has drilled and tapped it. I removed the cobbled together thing the PO had on it and bent a piece of flat stock to mount the alternator. It was just meant to hold it until I found another head. Lower alternator mount isn't right either so it rattles a little. I have a non-a/c alternator bracket. Oil pan gasket leaks a little. Muffler is rusted out internally. No A/C or PS.

All in all, this is a great base for a clean DD/project car. These are getting very hard to find, especially in this shape.

Car is not currently registered. Clean title in hand.
