  • 1984 Volvo 245 GLT Turbo Wagon (4-Speed Manual w/ Overdrive) Houston, TX $2500 OBO

    *4-SPEED MAUNAL w/ Overdrive*
    **PRICE OBO**

Before you say, "THAT PRICE IS TOO HIGH!!!", lets remember that I am very open to reasonable offers, so offer away. Plus, I do know the value of this vehicle. If push came to shove, I'll just stash it in my garage until the time is right.

Up for sale is a rare, hard to find, 1984 Volvo GLT Turbo Wagon. If you know about these vehicles (or love them, like I) you understand it's not such an easy task to stumble upon one, especially a 4-speed Turbo model, let alone in Houston, TX. If their readily available, I surely didn't see any in my travels (and travels aplenty I've done). Anyways, I am selling due to having too many project vehicles and not enough time/resources to finish them (plus, the girlfriend is all over my neck about the driveway being packed with these old gems, which I wouldn't care, but Mexican/Salvadorian makes a very feisty mix. Lol.). Unfortunately, something has to go in order to fund other adventures and this vehicle at the moment has not been touched (trust me that's a good thing). Given my reluctance (and love for all things Sporty and Wagony) I am mostly looking for people who appreciate or at least understand these type of vehicles, but nonetheless it is for sale. I found it outside of a Volvo shop in Houston and immediately had to have it. My joy and happiness for finding a manual turbo Volvo wagon, quickly came crashing down once I realized I didn't have the means to fulfill my dreams. Sometimes that happens; I bit off much more than I could chew at the moment. It was purchased from the owner, who is a Technician at an independent Volvo shop (they service Volvo exclusively). Why was I around such a shop? It so happened to be next to an AutoZone while I was buying some things; right time, right place. I spoke with the owner for awhile and got a good idea about the vehicles history. It had been a daily driver for years, bought in Mexico. He eventually bought a newer Volvo wagon and then a V70R and stopped driving this altogether. It was going to go to a family member after he rebuilt the motor (has about 50-60k miles, chassis has 190k), but that never came to fruition. He would start and let the car run everyday, but by the time I came around he hadn't touched it in almost 2 years.

Here is a quick rundown of some Pros/Cons:

    PROS:
    • Rebuilt Motor (50-60,000 miles), Chassis 190k

**Of note, I do not have official, lamented, in a binder, type documentation of said rebuild. Having purchased this vehicle from a Volvo technician I was informed by him and workers in the shop of this rebuild and the solid nature of the motor. Since driving it around (from the southwest side of Houston all the way Downtown and out and about) I can attest to this notion. Car feels very solid. To get it started, all I used was a bottle of Seafoam and after some coughing of black smoke/carbon buildup, she fired right up and drove away.**

    • Interior in FAIR-GOOD Condition

**There are definitely areas of attention needed, but all panels are intact and none missing. Front seats have covers on them and are separated from the seams, but not destroyed. Simple repair would bring them back to their original glory.**

    • Navy Blue Leather Interior

    • 4-Speed Manual

**This is where it's at! All gears feel good, as does clutch. There are no grinds and I haven't experienced any issues while driving the vehicle.**

    • Most gauges working/Lights and Signals working

**I say MOST because I cannot with absolute certainty say they are working, but tachometer/speedometer, turbo boost, clock, I have noticed working during my drives. Figured I'd say that instead of saying everything gauge-wise is working perfectly fine. As for the lights and signals, they are all in working condition**

    • Third Row seating

**I'm not sure if this was a common option during this era of Volvo Wagons, but I've been told that it's something only on certain optioned models. I refer to it as the "way, way, back". Seats are in good condition and neatly store under the trunk floor.**

    • 4 Aluminum Volvo Turbo Wheels

**Sought after and rare Volvo wheels. All in good condition, not bends or cracks.**

    • Front Under spoiler/Lip

**Common piece missing from these models, but intact here and functioning. Removed in pictures because I was missing a couple bolts and would rather not risk driving over it.**

    • Power Windows

**I have used the front windows during drives, as well as the rear and have had no issues, as of now. They could very well "decide" that the Tuesday you come to see the car, that they would rather be on vacation. Come back Wednesday.**

    • Stereo w/ 6 Speakers

**My ears tell me about 5 speakers are working, maybe less, but either way they aren't strong sounding and probably are just old and worn out.**

    • IPD Rear Sway Bar

**IPD is a very reputable company for Volvo, I haven't driven this vehicle in enough of a spirited manner to know the benefit, but it is there and in good condition.**

    • Working Brakes

**I'm here writing this for-sale ad, so yes brakes are working. Are they brand new? Negative. Working yes, but something probably due for a once over to assure safety. Personally, I drove it on the freeway here (I-45) at the cruising speed of 60-70mph. If you know Houston, you know that anywhere on I-45 the use of brakes in a strong fashion, is an everyday, if not moment, occurrence because drivers SUCK out here. Rant over.**

    • . . ..and a few other things I am surely missing due to my limited time with the vehicle.

    Body:

There are no major dents, rust, damage, on the vehicle. I have looked under it (on lift) and haven't noticed any rust, frame issues or major body damage. Very clean vehicle body wise.

    CONS:
    • Needs Alternator (possibly)

**Car runs and runs good, but I have noticed on long drives or stints around town, it'll eventually die out (has a brand new battery), so I am guessing it's not receiving a full charge.**

So, I probably haven't covered every, single base in regards to this car, but I have covered a lot. Let's get a few disclaimer's out of the way. This is a PROJECT vehicle or something that would need to be attended to in certain areas before you hit the streets, on a daily basis. Could you just ride out into the sunset? Why yes, Bonnie, but to assure dependability and to not prematurely kill a classic, I'd advise covering basic maintenance. DO NOT contact me asking if you'll make it to your family reunion next week in Arizona because I have no guarantees (If I had time to cover the maintenance or just "once over" the vehicle, I'd drive to Alaska and not sweat it). No it doesn't have AC (and you already knew that, it may only need a recharge, fan blows, but not cold. Heat seems to be working). All maintenance has not been covered, other than what the previous owner spoke to me about. Yes, it'll need some new parts, maintenance here and there to be 100% road-worthy. NO the inspection has not been completed, since it's been sitting next to my shop and outside the owners for years. YES, they are an extremely solid (rock solid) type of vehicle. Just taking care of the maintenance, misc. things and it'll run until the wheels fall off. Do not believe me? Look up their reliability/longevity on a plethora of websites online (Here and places like TurboBricks). Most likely you will NOT find another so easily around town (or maybe you will, you never know, but I have to make this ad sound good, ya know?). YES, the paint is faded from sitting outside for YEARS. I consider it the "patina" or character of the vehicle. Something you too should cherish and appreciate (look at the work kids are doing these days to try and make their 1998 look like it came from the 80s, this is OG status here).

Other than that, the vehicle is good to go. Title is in hand. Feel free to contact me anytime or come to take a look at it anytime. Yes, I believe it will make it back to your house or garage, but having no plates/insurance a trailer would be the safest bet. I however, drove it to it my shop at night, without a single issue and stopped for food. As mentioned, it's one of the more rare vehicles or at least hard to find.
