Hello all. I bought this whip recently with the intentions of making it my daily for years. Surprisingly, we have a new addition on the way and this car will simply not do. She has to go and I'll be taking a hit, but putting more time and money into the car would be pointless for an expecting father at this point. The car is old and by no means perfect, but will make an excellent daily driver. Some tinkering and mods could make it a real show stopper. It just turned 132k miles and will go up as I drive it daily.
It's a 5-speed manual with four doors. Le Mans Blue on Parchment comfort seats. The top end was rebuilt less than 10,000 miles ago. Between then and now it has received a new timing belt, new brakes, new suspension, a new battery, new wheels and tires, a paint job to go from bronzit to Le Mans, new exhaust, a new stage II clutch, short shifter, KN filter, etc... All the rubber was replaced and it does not leak a drop of oil. I've had it into Kansas City Autosport, the premiere indie BMW shop here in Kansas City, and the owner is very impressed with how strong the engine is. I immediately tore into it and discovered it had it's wires fried when the previous owner failed to properly clip them down. I sourced a new wiring harness, adjusted the valves, and replaced the position sensor and shazaam! The car runs great, shifts effortlessly, brakes straight and true, and tracks straight down the road. It idles silently and pulls nice and strong. It has a Dinan chip and will come with the factory chip, too.
The body has no dents or dings. It is completely rust free with the exception of the a small, dime sized bubble near the driver's side door lock. The paint job is not great but shines like new and really looks excellent to the non discerning eye. The front lip was cracked and removed by the previous owner. The clips are still there for now, though. The underbody looks factory new, especially with the new exhaust. Pretty rare for the rust belt. Yellow lows and highs with yellow fogs as well. The fogs have not been installed. I also have an alarm that will go with the car and some lowering springs for those that must have more low.
It has an aftermarked touchscreen deck with an ipod cable. The speakers are also new. The ground wire came loose and is whining so I have it disconnected for now. Fix it, replace it, sell it, do what you like. Big stereos are not really my bag so I guess I don't miss it too much.
The interior is original and next to mint. I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice. The dash has no cracks, stains, holes, rips, or tears. The seats are as close to perfect as it gets. The headliner has some discoloration. The rear decklid looks brand new. The doors are in great shape with the exception of a couple of strange, small tears near where the door lock is. They're not very noticable with the doors closed. The console looks excellent and the glove box opens and closes as it should. It is missing the interior light on the driver's side. The rearview mirror does have two working map lights, though. The interior tach stopped working after the wiring harness was replaced. I'm not sure if looking into this could provide a solution or if the gears simply happened to fail, but I'm guessing a little tinkering could get it working again.
The window and sunroof switches work intermittently. I will order some this weekend and replace them myself if they arrive before it's sold. I'm not sure if the OBC's lights are out or if it's not working. I haven't had time to look into it.
The car will need a new starter soon, as it is lagging a bit. It will also need a new water pump as the one it has now is looking a little peaked. I plan on ordering these parts this weekend as well. I do not hesitate to drive the car as it is, and my mechanic agrees. These are simply some things I know need to be done. The engine and transmission mounts will also need attention in the future. Nothing super urgent, but certainly on the list of things to do.
The guts of the car are great--engine, transmission, clutch, exhaust, brakes, body and interior. Some little things here and there and a couple bigger jobs and it's as good as it gets. I will try to answer any questions as best I can, but haven't had enough time with the car to know it forwards and back. I **** to see it go so soon, but priorties dictate that I have to sell it.
Please feel free to call, email, or text any time. 816.217.5834 francke13@gmail.com The car is located in Kansas City and I'm asking $5,500 with the parts listed above. I'll take less if someone wants to source them and do the work themselves, $4,500 sounds about right. I'm certainly open to all reasonable offers. I'd consider trades for a 1996 or newer Toyota 4runner or 1990 and up Land Cruiser. I'll need the space. Cheers and thanks for looking!!!
