I am actually more interested in trading this unique piece of history for another historical BMW, the 2002. Mainly looking for a straight body, minimal rust, 02 with manual transmission and good mechanical condition.
On to my car, I have a 1972 BMW Bavaria (E3) in original paint, Riviera Blue located in Los Angeles, CA. Car is in running condition. Mileage shows 22xxx but I am pretty sure it is more like 122xxx miles.
The Good:
- Minimal rust. Primary rust areas are driver's side front fender but I already found a replacement fender which will go with the car.
- Clean and rust free shock towers
- Excellent condition rear seats with the very rare and original weave pattern
- Interior door panels are in pretty good condition
- Has all glass
- Original engine in working condition
- Overall straight body
- Odometer works
- Headlights work
- Has original chrome bumpers
- Comes with extra parts such as radiator fan, drivers side fender, extra rear seats, extra rear glass
- Pre 1975 car that is smog exempt
- No back fees. Registration was paid and I purchased insurance so I can get the tags, which should be arriving in the mail soon. The DMV already cashed my $14 reinstatement fee on 9-28-11 so I am expecting the tags hopefully within the next week or so.
- Title in hand and ready to be sold or traded.
The Bad:
- Crack in windshield
- Rips in both driver and passenger front seats
- No AC
- Speedometer is broken
- Wiring under the steering wheel is a mess. Previous owner added an aftermarket radio but did not do a clean job with the wiring and the cover is missing.
- Needs new carpet (the previous owner, but moreso myself ripped up the deteriorating carpet to check for rust on the floor pans.)
- 1 surface rust spot that is half dollar size behind drivers seat
- Surface rust in the spare wheel well
- Non working sunroof
- Cracks on dash
More info available so please feel free to ask. I can also include more photos, but here are some to start with. I have tried to describe this car as accurate as possible. This is not a perfect car and the age of the car is reflected in its current condition for a 39 year old car.
Asking price: $3000 OR BEST OFFER. HIGHLY PREFER TRADES (1975 or older model 2002) but not against a straight sale. I may accept trades or wheels in 5x120 also. Options are open. Thanks for looking.

This orange stuff is not rust. It is discolored adhesive from the factory. Close ups can be provided to verify. Also, no rust on the rear shock towers.
