Due to a change in work circumstances (I'm in the Navy) and an impending wedding I unfortunately need something cheaper to run than my BMW,
I am the car's 3rd owner and I've had the car since April 2010 when I bought it from Arnold Clarke Ford in Newcastle (where I'm originally from) with 80,062 miles on the clock and since then have mainly used the car for the long (860 mile) round trip to see family and friends and the which has taken the mileage up to 101000 miles. This will slowly rise as the car is in daily use.
The car has MOT until April 12 2012
The tax expires 31st September 2011
The car had FULL BMW DEALER service history when I bought it and since then it has been fastidiously maintained and pampered regardless of cost by myself (I'm an ex car mechanic and currently an Engineer in the Royal Navy). There is a folder Full of receipts for everything that has been spent on the car right down to 70p plastic clips etc which I invite any prospective buyer to look through.
The spec is as follows:
Engine:
The car has the N42B20 2.0l 16v "valvetronic" engine (The 1.8l version of the same engine - N42B18 won the 1.4-1.8 L category of the International Engine of the Year competition for 2001) which is smooth, quiet and very responsive as well as being very fuel efficient for the size of the car.
the engine is fitted with a K&N replacement air filter in the original air box and has a stainless steel rear section of the exhaust (NOT loud or chavvy) built by AAS exhausts in Newcastle upon Tyne (http://www.aas-exhausts.co.uk/)
The ECU was recently re-mapped by Remap Science which combined with the exhaust and air filter should take the original 142bhp closer to 160bhp
Other than that it is totally standard, not messed about with and doesn't need anything spending on it.
I have serviced the car every 5 months/7k miles since I bought it with high quality fluids, filters and lubricants - I now run Millers XF long life C3 5w-30 fully synthetic oil from opieoils.co.uk
Gearbox:
the original 5 speed manual box is a delight to use, the clutch was changed for a standard replacement sachs clutch kit at around 86k miles and at the same time the problematic clutch delay valve was removed (a recommended modification on all e46 BMW's). The gearbox is filled with REDLINE D4 gearbox oil which is also strongly recommended for BMW manual boxes
The rear differential is filled with Castrol synthetic differential oil.
Brakes:
The car has discs all round, the rears are nearly new, and the front discs are in perfect condition with the pads being half worn.
Suspension:
the car is fitted with adjustable coilover suspension which is currently on its lowest setting, this makes the car look great and if like me you don't mind having to slow down for speed bumps is no problem at all however it can be raised up a touch, or even to original ride height in less than an hour if you please (I am willing to do this for any buyer)
The coilovers were fitted in October last year and are still in great condition giving a firm sporty ride
Wheels:
The car is fitted with GENUINE E46 M3 18" forged alloy wheels; they have been reconditioned in a custom steel grey sparkle powder coat and polished rims by Bettablast in Newcastle
(http://www.bettablast.co.uk/bettablast/home.html) at a price of nearly £400
the wheels are fitted with 215/35 R18 tyres, the rears having the fashionable "stretched" look on the 9" wide rear wheels. The fronts have lots of wear left in them, and the rears are brand new (fitted 1/7/11)
The original 16" BMW wheels are also available at extra cost, or instead of the 18" wheels. They all have excellent Michelin primacy HP tyres with loads of life left in them.
Bodywork:
The car is steel grey metallic, simply the best colour for the E46; it's in great condition for the age and mileage of the car and is regularly washed, polished and waxed with only the highest quality products.
There are a few stone chips as to be expected with any car, and there is a little scratch (less than an inch long) on the passenger door that was there when I bought the car and I don't think it warrants being resprayed.
The hood is in perfect condition with no leaks, tears, moss, and discolouration etc; it operates smoothly and is nice and warm in the winter.
The car is fitted with smoked indicators and satin black kidney grilles which give a subtle but classy upgrade to the looks.
Interior:
the car has control and 6 disc changer, optional (expensive!) original BMW wood dash/door inlays and gear knob, original BMW fitted mats, leather steering wheel, electric windows, cruise control, traction and full black leather interior, electric memory seats, BMW business CD player with steering wheel control, ASC stability control, multiple airbags, auto-dim rear view mirror, auto dip passenger mirror when reversing (this is amazing when parking!) digital climate control etc.
I am not in any huge rush to sell the car; I'd rather see it go to another BMW enthusiast or a similar good home where it will be looked after as I have looked after it. The car is located in Plymouth for viewing. Test drives are only available on production of a UK driving licence, fully comprehensive insurance and cash in my hand! Otherwise I will happily take you for a spin to demonstrate the car.
PLEASE - no dreamers, timewasters, test pilots etc.
NO p/x as I already have a new car, thanks
the car is located in PLYMOUTH, Devon
