            • i'll take cast aluminum over a steel pan you basically have to pull the engine to replace anyday.

                • word... i left out "easily replacable" cast aluminum.

and bending isn't necesarily a good thing, just ask my oil pickup.

                  • Oil pan. About 1 3/4" clearance.

Control arm. Less than about 1 3/4" clearance.

                    • I hit THE BIGGEST frost heave last night at about 90 when I switched lanes to avoid someone merging into me. Caught about a second of air and came down nose first. Took my lip completely off and ground off almost all of the cooling fins on my pan, lol. Lip got stuck under the car and got a hole ground into the corner of it.

I cannot believe the pan is still in one piece though. I've got to take some new pics when I go under there to change the mounts that blew out upon landing.

                      • Don't have pics but my oil pan was about 1 3/4" off the ground before I raised the motor up. The other day on the way home I got like a 1.5" tall rock stuck in front of the skid plate haha.

                        • Im already down one pan myself. Drivin home late on night after a meet. I was on a nice windy road up near my house and hit half of a cinder block. Didnt even see it till it was too late. I was going about 45 when I hit it and dragged it all the way till i stopped.
