e30 guys, 4 cylinders shorter oil pan

always surfed loads of bmw or general forums reading of people complaining ang making answers to get rid of the stock-pita 4 cylinders pan, people raising engines, fitting insane skidplates etc..
i own a '90 318is with the mighty m40/42 oil pan that i cracked last week.
looking for a spare one on ebay.de i found this, also used in the 318is cup/rally
basically a shorter pan that guarantees the same oil capacity but, higher more than 2cm from the stock one..
recieved it today at home i'm going to install it asap and let you know

the only modification required is to shorter the oil strainer

I'm confused, do you actually have to shorten the pick up for this pan. the add makes it seem like its made to be bolted on.
