  • Lowering First Timer

    Hey guys,

I don't need this right now, or for a couple weeks, just trying to get all my thoughts together.

I have an 83 E28, I know there are a few options here and there for lowering, I saw someone convert E28 coils, GC, bags, etc. I know you can build a pair for them relatively easy, if you can weld, which I cannot.

Just wondering if there is anyone local in the Pittsburgh area who has done this and wouldn't mind helping a newbie to lowering learn the ropes? Just tell me what I'll need then one day build them up?

    Thanks!

**If you can direct me to a couple tutorials or diys on building for the e28, that'd be great. I saw one on here earlier, but no pics and kind of hard for me to understand.

the front struts will have to be cut and rewelded on an e28 almost regardless f what you do but any halfway competent shop should be able to do that easy

if you decide on the coilover route, this thread has some good info on options:
      http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=40058

there are a bunch of nice e28's on here, so just find some of the builds there should be tons of info. Good luck getting low!

        That's a great link, how could I forget about J's e28?
That being said, wasn't there a BC Racing coilover being made for the E28, does anyone know the status of that?

Since all of the options seem like welding is a mandatory thing, I might be SOL.

eh the welding isn't hard, if you find any local machine/sheet metal shop they'll probably do it for whatever their minimum shop charge is (usually $75 to $100), so if you can afford the coils the welding is no biggie.

That's what I think I'm going to have to do. Need to find someone local who wouldn't mind welding them, I wouldn't know how to describe how to weld it to a shop.

You get instructions with the coilovers normally, so you could just take them with the damper when it's welded to the hub carrier.

slip one tube over the other tube, weld at the bottom
