Koni Strut shortening

i currently have koni yellow struts in my car. i want the front down a little more. ive thought about just welding the perches another inch lower, but that will kill my travel. anyone ever done this to a set of yellows? or should i just pull the inserts buy shorter ones and shorten the housing?
