  • E36 Going low on a budget

As bimmer parts are quite pricey where I am at, I am just curious since have a bone stock 95 E36 316i (yes 1600 sohc power ) and I really don't see being able to use the full benefit of expensive coilovers, I was just wondering if those generic e-bay type sleeve coilovers would work for my car? these are dirt cheap here and plenty, just wondering if anyone has tried them on e36?

these are what I'm talking about:

hope to get some answers and not just get flamed for asking...

    Thanks!

    Have you asked the seller?

May as well just buy a second standard set of springs from a breaker, if you need them for tests etc, and cut your current ones, you'll get the same effect with next to nothing spent/no need to dismantle any struts

the pic was just for reference but these are those marketed as "universal" kits and about getting standards, these coilover sleeves here are actually cheaper than used standard springs retailing at about 80USD brand new compared to about 150USD for OEM used and un-cut... I really don't see me using the full potential of full coilover kits for e36 as I don't have plans of racing or tracking the car, just want it low and slow...

Those kits are likely very low quality and will amount to more headaches than they are worth in $ savings. If you need to drop for cheap, get some ebay coilovers like Rokkor or Raceland.

I had Rokkors on my E36, and had my subframe less than an inch from the ground on 195/40/R16 tires. paid $280 for them shipped (i think they're slightly more now, still less than $400) and I loved them. Definitely worth considering, and will be better than those coilover sleeves. I never had a complaint about them. Our project accord is on ebay sleeves and I have to say, most shit ride ever. and like vgrntbeauxner said, it wouldnt be a bad idea to find some used coilovers, you can usually find some decent setups on here or bimmerforums. hope that was some help!

are you just trying to get dope low? or are you trying to increase the performance of your beezmer? like anonymoose said, you might get a second set of springs and then cut your stock springs.

i have a friend, and we have a mutual friend with a geo who doesn't want to waste money on springs. so, we may cut his springs in half AND twist them into eachother. understand? that will make them stiffer, and shorter, and adjustable. see what i'm saying?

however we haven't tried it. but, i do think it'll work. maybe try and get another set of stock springs to try it.

                  good luck!
