  • Shortening H&R race springs?

    Hey guys,
I'm trying to ruin my 318ti clubsport by making it too low to take corners at 150 mph. I have H&R race springs and Bilstein sport shocks on it now, and I would like to go about 3/4" lower. I know that a set of Broadway coils are probably the best option to do it right but I'm trying to avoid buying a whole new suspension setup. Does anyone know if it's safe to cut one dead coil off of H&R's? I like the ride quality and spring rate which is why I'm hesitant to consider this.
And before you guys burn me at the stake for placing the words "cut" and "spring" in the same post, the reason that I'm asking this question is to make sure it's not going to fuck shit up before I do it.
    thanks,
    -philip

A 24v swap would change the front suspension more than cutting a coil would. Cutting one is fine.

Thanks for the info, guys. I think I'll cut one dead coil at each corner and see where I sit after that.

You won't notice much difference, if any by cutting only enough to go down 3/4".

Thats really all I was looking for. Now I'm going to run some Jaguar XJR wheels that are 17x8, et33 and if I go any lower I wont clear the fenders, so I'm holding off on cutting the dead coils until I go back down to 16's.

A dickhead in a minivan ran a stop sign and killed it, but I'm parting it out if you're interested in anything
